I recently got a copy of the famous F1 teapot book published by Wushing,
鈺壺雅集, and I was trying to compare the sizes (height and width)
of a couple of teapots whose shape and color matches quite closely the pictures on it with the numbers shown below the pictures in the book (in cm).

However, the sizes do not entirely match. Sometimes, they are off by
a few cm. Does this mean that the teapot is a fake or are the measurements
in the book not to be taken too seriously?

Thanks very much in advance!!
No, different clay has different shrinkage rate. Like, Hongni Shui-ping teapots can be 4~5-cup size (8~100ml) while Zini SPs give 6-cup (120ml), given the same mould.

It's a very good book, kinda bible for F1 collectors.

Thank you chrl42 for the comment! It is good to keep that in mind when looking at the book.

The book is in fact quite useful. It is not perfect
(I wish it came with F1 clay samples, to touch and play with...),
but it is probably the closest thing to the original F1 catalogues
that can be found in a bookstore.

How does everyone go about preparing their pots to test it? I'm assuming you dont season it of course, but is there set up for the pot if I am going through a bunch of different type of teas to find the fit of the pot?

Thank you.

Tons of info available on the forum already, just do an advanced search for "pairing yixing" in the title only.

This is the method I use though (cataloged perfectly by Brandon)... http://chahai.net/yixing-evaluation-part-one/

Thanks. Just to make sure, the article is saying to brew leaves in a gaiwan, take that brew and put it in a pitcher, then put half of that tea liquid in the yixing pot and drink both of those side by side?

I didn't want to open up a new thread so my question is about a certain yixing clay type. Does anyone know if dark green Yixing pots got their color because of the mixture of clay, minerals and temperature or is it something chemical mixed to it? It there any real dark green Yixing?

that is a very interesting question and almost sensitive.. but green, dark green yixing is simply due to the presence of chromium oxides in the clay, which can either be naturally occuring or added in during blending. the chance if of it being blended is high, and different greens are obtained from the use of different clay bases, i.e it can be made on a duan-ni base, it can also be made on a zini base giving different green shades and textures

I've been using this tea ware for years and my curiosity has finally gotten the better of me. However little I know, I know TC'ers and the resources here have alwyas been excellent. So I hope by posting these images some more detailed information can come from the chop. I didn't have time to photograph the pots themselves, which I will try to do.
Thanks!

the san-xi seal would probably determine the taiwanese origin of the pot.

the seals that you have presented, one says made in the honor of Lv Yu
the other says "shen hu" which is pot of the gods.

kyarazen,
Many many thanks, however could you confirm. The san-xi seal is pot 2 photo; honor of Lv Yu is pot 3 photo, and "shen hu" is pot 1 photo?
Again, I'll get pot photos in the coming days and appreciate your comments.
