I am sorry that I can not agree with your cigar statement JRS22... since aging cigar is my first love
You misunderstood the cigar reference - or maybe you didn't...

Taken from an online quote reference ""Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar" is attributed to Sigmund Freud. But there is no evidence that he actually said it. It means that sometimes a cigar is what it is and not a phallic symbol."
That one definitely went right past him. In fact, a cigar is always a cigar, but, a woman is so much more than a woman. :D You can quote me on that.
Just thought we are on parallel ground on our previous reconciliation. Yet the dark matter reappears.... A cigar is just another cigar to you, and tea is just tea, i assume

Tim,

Just to make it clear, I have a lot of respect for your tea knowledge. You can teach me a lot. Parallel ground is a concept just like a cigar and a woman. We have our interpretations of what they are but they are all learned, taught to us by others and from books. Of course a cigar is not just another cigar and I didn't say that. I said a cigar is just a cigar. What ever we think it may be or how we value it doesn't change this. The same with tea. We can attribute all kinds of magical things about it but after all is said and done, it is just tea. There is no problem here.

What makes you think it's oily?

Excellent.

I don't know whether to feel guilty  or proud :D when some teachatters come out with comments like "you only need a gaiwan and 1 or 2 yixing"

I wonder how many teachatters will come clean and admit to having over 10, over 50 or over 100 teapots
Wow, I'm impressed, and I must admit, a tad jealous! My collection of 25 or so pales in comparison

Not usable 16
12 Emperors and 4 Beauties - covered in Boot Polish

Possibly Not Usable 3 others which I occasionally try cleaning to see if they can be used

Early tourism purchases in Malaysia 6

Purchase from Seven Cups 1 - probably unusable because of an incredibly slow pour

early ebay purchases from a warehouse clearance (he did not like me buying so many - thought I was a professional collector and pulled the rest from his ebay listing) 40 some of which I use for Anxi TGY and some others which look like they may be impressive pots but are too large for personal use.

2 from Teacuppa which are OK
4 from Zen8Tea which are generally OK but 2 are my go to Dan Cong pots.

That was all in my early days

I then tried 8 from Necessiteas, nice pots to look at, but I have not even tried some of them

I then became more choosy
1 from Shouzhen
6 from Special Teashop friends in Malaysia
3 from other teashops in Malaysia

With the ever increasing price of pots at Shouzhen I then tried some clays 3 from Yunnan Sourcing that I did not have in my collection.

Not Yixing
3 of Imens Chao Zhou pots
1 Hojo Shigaraki
1 Hojo Gisuia Tokoname
1 Petr Novak
1 Artistic Nippon Kyusus

and in the post 1 of Yunnan Sourcings Polished Yunnan teapots.

Usable or Not, Frequently used or not, not quite Yixing close to 100

Those that I would be happy to use if Teachatters turned up at my door and asked for refreshment - about 25

Oops  I compiled that list on the fly from Memory
Just went downstairs for another glass of wine (PC is in an unused bedroom upstairs) and spotted another 2 - 1 a replacement item from Zen 8 tea (FOC) when I pointed out one I had purchased had a minute chip in the rim. And another pear shaped lixing with a damaged lid - not sure but I may have got it from Teance

I also have 10 Gaiwans

This would be cool if it was turning into a yixing group photo show off on this topic, like MarshallN's, don't you think ? :)

I do have four tuition pots that I didn't show in the group pic -- didn't want them ruining the view.

Herb_Master - wow - you really did come clean.

I'd be interested to see some photos of the YS polished pot you ordered and to hear what you think of it.

Thanks!

Very neat, it's like a slice of a lotus...

The Japanese would call that a futaoki, which, like most Japanese tea-related terms, translates directly into the mundane sounding 'item for placing a lid'....
