Chrl42: I think that the Zhuni pot is much older (late Qing/ early ROC), but who would know this things for sure? The color is a bit off in the picture though. The clay is very high quality and the pot shines beautifully when I rubbed it with my fingers.

I no have many experiences, either. Beijing doesn't have many old Yixings compared to south. Late-Qing~ROC Zhunis are noticeable with its orange dense texture, hand-made, fired at Dragon wood-kiln.

Below is typical Qing~ROC Zhaozhuang Zhuni, the bubbles are a trait of being fired at wood-kiln. Just for anyone. Yigong was some early-mid Qing Zhuni expert, prolly most skilled Zhuni master of Qing, but late-Qing had many of his imitations so it's no problem.

That's a nice looking clay Chrl42, can you please post a picture of the inside of the pot and of the bottom marks?
My pot it's more orange in person and the clay it's very dense. I will take some photos of some of my others pots and show you in the future.

Nice.. but the price tag is kind of... USD2,500... Nice, but this is not my level yet :(
I have seen this type of pot before, and I know it is a famous style, but what is it supposed to be modeled after? What is the Chinese name again? I know chrl42 is familiar with this style.

Auhckw - I like how you said "yet".

The style It's call 供春. Suppose to be a tea pot made in Ming dynasty by a young boy from a temple. It represents spring nature, but the original one lost the lid and every masters afterward tried to interpret the original lid design by themselves.

Thanks TIM! What is the Mandarin for "Welcome Spring" in this case?

So the pot texture is supposed to represent the soft mud around the spring?

I picked this teapot up this weekend. I always used a $5.00 claypot in the past until I recently found out about Yixing on this forum. I'm not sure about the clay, type etc. Any comments would be appreciated.

I've heard this style referred to as a tree gall. To me, the texture always looked more like mud though too!

Good evening, gentlefolk

The artist duanni pot shown below would generally be called
a 'Gong Chun' style teapot, after the legendary boy in a chinese
monastery. He purportedly collected the mud that had accumulated
beneath the place where his fellow monks had washed their hands
after working on clay.
With this extremely fine clay he crafted a teapot in the manner below.
The style copies a tree burl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burl). Over the years, the lid was lost. Many later masters added their own lid designs,
pumpkins (below) were popular but also Ling Zhi Tree mushrooms.

Best regards
Patrick B. Ludwig

Qing Hui Ni is one of the sub category of Zini. Less common. As expensive/rare as modern Zhuni. This retains heat very very well. Brings out the flavor and smoothness. Good to brew aged tea.
Decided to dedicate for: Raw Pu-erh (15 years above)
I thought QHN was greyish; in fact, qing hui means graphite colour. I also read somewhere that nowadays this clay is made by adding other clay to duan ni clay, in order to reach the desired effect since real QHN pots are worth thousands. Another clay that has been mined out in the existing mines.

Your pot looks to me a common Qing Shui Ni.
I asked the teashop today. They said confirmed a QHN. They said the colour is darker cause it is high fired. The 3 clay (same design) are all requested to be high fired.

They dare to claim it is pure cause the artist who is assisting them is quite well known. The studio even gave the artist a special room there (though the artist is not working there). They told me the name, unfortunately couldn't remember.

大茶树记 – 朱泥 – 梨形壶
dà chá shù jì – zhū ní – lí xíng hú

Capacity: 170ml
Clay: Modern Zhuni
Made in: Year 2011 (year written in chinese on the bottom)

Custom made teapot from a local teashop here. Slight modifications. Mold theirs. Same shape comes with 3 clays x30 units. Zhuni, Di Cao Qing, Huang Jin Duan.

Though all 3 clays used the same mold, but the shrinkage makes the teapot size different. Zhuni is the smallest (170ml), where the other 2 clays is 190ml to 200ml range (guestimate from comparing side by side)

This is the 2nd design out of 6 planned designs in total. 3rd design coming around Feb 2012. Looking fwd...
