spittingoutteeth wrote:Chip, the set was made by an artist named Petr Novák from the Czech Republic. He posts a lot on various tea blogs (possibly here as well) so many of you may know who he is. I'm just starting to get into teaware and fell in love with this set because of the very organic and unique appearance. It kind of reminds me of the work of one of my favorite artists, Anselm Kiefer.

What a coincidence! I just bought some cups from this same artist last month in a small teashop here in Vienna. The owner told me the artist had come around recently and she had bought a small selection of his work.
The cup is beautiful, wood-fired, and feels so textured and at the same time so comfortable in the hand. The tea drunk out of it also seems to gain body and sweetness.
I am planning on contacting him soon and maybe even going to visit his workshop since the Czech Republic is quite nearby.

I have only recently learned about the teaware aspect of tea making. I had found this tea set several years ago and am curious as to what kind of of teapot it is. It's probably just something plain and simple although it is pretty.

Love the "piggy-back" pig hehehe

Nice Tazbell, should serve you well on your new loose leaf adventure! I found I had wares from before that worked out well. :)

Bought a couple of prettier tea pieces at the Korean tea shop today, and a couple of small things at the Chinese tea shop too.

Image
Celadon cup/infuser insert/lid set: the cup is big enough for my chasen, to use for matcha, if I can find one that I like.

Green gaiwan and drinking cup set

Image
Mini-gong fu travel set--bought this because of the tiny gaiwan, holding just 45-50 mL apiece. I wanted the smaller gaiwans to be able to do gong fu tasting sessions comparing several different teas without drinking inordinate quantities of tea.

Image
Mini-aroma cup set--the cup holds about one ounce.

Well, I got a ton (by weight  ) of Jayzo for it. Oddly the Jayzo sits idle ...

If the value of teaware was in its weight, I romped this trade. However if the value is in its use ...
