Let's have a topic for Korean teaware!

Please share your Korean wares, and discuss all things regarding Korean teaware. I hope we can all learn about this lesser known teaware regardless of its strong heritage.

So often times, artisans from one country borrow from another. Korea is home to the origins of Hagi-yaki for instance. Sometimes the line has been crossed back and forth so many times it is hard to decide what are the origins. I felt it was appropriate to include some Hagi from Japan in the background, an homage to its Korean roots.

Fom here, we can explore Korean teaware, often obscure to most of us, and oft overlooked as a unique and different source for some very interesting pieces for those so inclined.

This set (not including the Japanese cooler) blurs the lines, named a travel set and imported by Hankook, this travel set was made by a Korean artisan though I will have to inquire again. The influence crosses several borders including Japan (houjin) and China/Taiwan (what we call gaiwanesque).

I love the feel of this set, smooth and textured at the same time ... and white for those purist moments when only white will do.

This set is great for many types of tea, but I tend to brew mostly Korean greens (pictured) and Japanese greens.

This is a great idea, Chip. I'm looking forward to learning more about this.

Great to see this thread started..... Some of the finest work I know of comes out of Korea or has Korean roots.

Relatedly, one of my favorite movies is Chi-Hwa-Seon (Painted Fire) which details the life of brush painter Jang Seung-up.

I resized these so I hope they will fit.

Artist is Hong Seong-il. He lives in Boseong, Korea. He and his wife are full time potters living up in the area that produces a large majority of Korean teas, many organic. These were recently made. Chicago Potter turned me on to him. You can contact him through his blog: http://blog.naver.com/ttogarii.do
He makes lovely teaware including teapots, chawan, and, cups. Mention the guy from Bangkok if you do contact him. I will visit him in early May in Korea.

BTW, I am using the teapot exclusively for the Korean yellow tea he sent along. They compliment each other very well.

Here is one of my favorite Korean potter focused on tea ware-Oh Soon-Teak from Mungyeong.

A beautiful example of modern Korean porcelain teaware is this matcha serving set in a very hard to capture pale celadon:

Those are both very beautiful sets Victoria! That second one looks like the crackles will stain beautifully!
