Very nice indeed, debunix!

Did you also get a lotus pitcher? I have been using the one I received quite a bit (it ihas been popping into the background of photos I have been taking lately, definitely a best supporting teaware!). It is reallllly nice to use.

It is too bad Yi Yong Cheol has set aside the art ... too bad he felt compelled to due to finacial considerations.

Beautiful pieces, Hopeofdawn. I see you have multiple Seong-Il pots!

Wow, that is incredible staining going on Adam!

Yes, Chip, I do also have a lotus pitchen, and I think they would look very nice together, but I don't want to break up the green trio I'm keeping at the satellite office (the lotus pitcher is there with another Yi Yong Cheol pot and my Seigan Hagi Oribe. I'm only there a few days a month, and I am having too much fun with the new pot in almost daily use at home to leave it at the office.

It is a shame he's not producing anymore pottery. When I want to reach for refined porcelain teaware, I always choose his stuff. That celadon lotus teapot of Debunix is a stunner!

That's really sad to hear that Yi Yong Cheol is not creating tea ware anymore. I really liked his work. Unfortunately, I do not own a piece myself.
The white / celadon porcelain Lotus pattern stuff was particularly beautiful.

I think what is left on the dropbox site will be the only teaware of his that you will be able to acquire. I encourage you to try and find something you like.

I found another artist working in fine porcelain but he is not making enough for me to consider handling his work. I am currently looking for more Korean potters to add to my site.

Happy to see this bowl in a tea lover's hand!
I'm sure you're going to give it a new and rich tea life.
Enjoy it (and don't forget to post some photos for us...).
Maybe one day we can have a meeting with this bowl and its "brothers" along with their owners from Teachat... just dreaming

I'm assuming your bowl is buncheong. If it is, it is slip glazed and prone to chipping and flaking. A certain delicacy will be needed. Could you ascertain the age from the seller?

You are right on of course TO. The seller being Japanese described it as kohiki, their term for the hagi slip application. Matcha will be reserved for special ocassions by people with real training in that art - not by myself of course! The energy of a tea gathering infuses the bowl. Rest of the time it will be drinking aged puer. The seller described the period as Joseon, do not know personally. The feeling of the bowl is amazing but as I mentioned it is somewhat dormant due to being out of use for awhile.

Just have to add my kudos--what an amazing bowl! I remember seeing that listing, and wishing I was rich enough to try for it ... I'm glad you got it. 8)
