Well, while everybody is waiting for their Gisui's to show up, I'll show off one of my consolation purchases, a smaller Junzo kyuusu, which is brewing the tsurujirushi from o-cha in this picture.
I'm very pleased with this kyuusu. It's the perfect size for my hagi tempest cup, and the wide mouth (lid) is great for viewing the leaves. The surface also has much more prominence of the gold than I was expecting, and it looks quite nice with the dark blue-gray of the rest of the material.

That is a very nice Junzo Kyushu. Loads of wabi sabi. The tea looks delicious too.

Oh, I just opened Tsurujuridhi too. Did not try it yet. Just also finished the Kame version which is still one of the best gyokuro values available, IMHO of course.

Thanks, everybody! Chip, I didn't notice any particular sound when using the teapot, but I'll pay better attention next time. I was rushing around a bit while brewing. Not ideal, but better than not brewing at all.

I have a very similar junzo kyusu and it fizzes when hot water is poured in. I don't notice it once there is leaf in the pot though.

I think the kyusu needs to be dry in order for this to occur. So, when the water first hits the dry kyusu.Drax wrote:Thanks, everybody! The clay on those pots looks very porous to me? Its probably trapped air rushing out. They are damn nice pots. I want one! but cant justify it!

I'll open some gyokuro tomorrow and photo it with my new mukuhara kashun tiny tiny yunomi.

It's interesting, the interior texture doesn't *feel* any more rough or porous. But I would imagine it's something along those lines.
In the meantime, I brewed up some fukamushi in another consolation purchase, this one a kenji nerikomi kyuusu. I am not a fan of the other more ostentatious nerikomi color swirls, but I did like this creamier and lighter version.

The is a nice Kenji. I sometimes envision Kenji to be a hippy pot producer, er kyusu! I have a couple of his more ... conservative kyusu.
