That is a cute pot.

I 'broke in' my kyusu by one rinse with boiling water, then using straight away. Nothing fancy. Have one of them right next to me, still with some bi luo leaves in it from this morning. It is such a nice little pot.

Yeah, usually a hot rinse is all they need for breaking in.

It took so long because he went to the artisan's house to get it. Also, he asked him to sign and stamp a wooden box with ties for it.

He told me it would take this long, so no problem.

a mucky one! haha...there's some black gunk buildup in the spout/screen which im trying to clean out. any suggestions would be welcome! i've been using a toothbrush to brush the screen but can't find anything to cleanout the spout bit.

its a ball filter with many holes.

Try to find a tiny bottle brush, I keep one with the teaware (which came with a hummingbird feeder) for kyusu cleaning only. You might be able to find one in a large kitchen supply store?

Maybe a Q-Tip will help. Since it is glazed, soaking in vinegar (or baking soda or bleach) should help as well. I also scraped the inside with a toothpick which broke through thick layers of scale/tea stain residue build-up.

pipe cleaners can come in handy too! i always have tons of those around since they seem to be more for childrens crafts tha actual pipe cleaning
