Anyway, they are therefore BOTH spectacular ... the Mrs. agrees!

There should be more characters I believe. Are there anymore that aren't seen in the photo?

The other side has a ?tachibana crest? on it and there is some writing on the backside.

It caught my fancy, with the flower crest on the other side..

"Flower Power" -- I call it my hippy tetsubin.

This is on the way, couldn't resist the dragonflys and wabi-sabi. I'll take my own pics after I live with it for a while.

Not that it is any clearer to read, but here is a rubbing I took..

Huh, I suppose if you read it right to left... that's kind weird, though.

I've got:

念記?新店服呉本山

But to me, 記 looks more like 祀. You'd need 記 for 記念 to mean commemoration....

呉服 are dry-goods... which I suppose could include kimono...

I'm curious -- did TokyoB happen to mention why it's read right to left? Japanese script is usually read left to right when horizontal.

My wife translated it. She is fluent in Chinese and Japanese. Tried reading it both ways. Right to Left is more traditional (ancient) I believe. MarshalN agreed with translation and gave some additional details (we did this on the chat yesterday). Older form of word for Kimono is used. Specifically commerates the construction of the new store. The store is still in operation in Hiroshima. Marshal found their current website.

Latest and definitively the most beautiful daisen-yaki guinomi I have (Suzuki Toshiyuki)

Lovely organic feeling to this one.

That's a beautiful cup. It looks very much like a Han Dynasty Chinese teabowl. The teabowl would be larger, of course. I like it very much.
