It is possible that the top and bottom were old repairs, done by someone who was not quite as talented as the original creator. It is still a fantastic piece!

Because I practice tea ceremony, I've become very interested in tea tools, in particular chawan. I love collecting them, using them, and showing them off .

SWEET! i really like bizen and wood fired pieces in general. that one looks awesome.

Bizen is my favorite ceramic style in Japan, I love how earthy and dynamic it is. The clay of this chawan makes the most beautiful metallic sound with even the lightest tough, almost like a bell, and it's so satisfying to hold. There's a similar one from the same artist up for auction on ebay right now, so some lucky bidder's going to see just what I mean, soon .

Fuyou, love the Bizen-Yaki, have several pieces too ... but not a chawan, yet. I tend to focus on the yohen effect pieces.
