a tokoname kyusu by UMEHARA Gyokudo (1936-2012; RIP) i got from artisticnippon.
i think the "shochikubai" motifs were done by scratching away the reduction-fired surface to reveal the orange-red clay below.

i really love everything about this pot. it's my first and so far only kyusu (...how long will that stay true? lol).

Image

i love the way it feels... like a smooth little pumpkin or something. i love the attention to detail as well. the shape of the handle and the spout, the clean, concentric lines around the rim, the precise lid fit, the shape of the little nubby lid handle..

Image

check out that filter. he made it super thin/fine. kind of organic looking. trypophobia, anyone?

Image

a fingerprint captured forever makes it extra special:

Image

also, the pressure equalization hole cut into the lid is countersunk.
i've looked at this pot a lot, and it really feels like he cared about his work.

Image

at ~330mL, however, it's slightly on the big side. i get the most use out of it when i have friends over.

That looks beautiful. Now where is the dictionary for "trypophobia"?

New user, first time posting any of my (limited) teaware.

This is a brand new chawan by Oliver Prestele (Germany), purchased from his Etsy shop. Christened it with some puer (white2tea's Little Walk) just minutes after unboxing it. Apologies for the dodgy iPhone pics.

Beautiful pictures, and a lovely cup! The surface makes me think of a landscape of some alien planet ...

Thanks HoD. Maybe I should call this my "ice-covered Mars" cup. ;)

Hey so I am trying to find a bowl like the one you have in your picture there. What are they called and where can I find one? I've seen people use them for seasoning a yixing pot or just for keeping it warm.

People call them tea boats, usually. There are some that are specifically made as a tea boats, but a lot of what people use are just repurposed bowls or saucers

What Teadoff said. This one I think is a Japanese transferware shallow dish, probably part of a tableware set.

Indeed debunix... lovely blue tones all round and the sharper flatter angles around the outside of the bowl add a nice dimension to it... quite pleased with it overall.

Your post pointed me towards the artisticnippon website. And now I have ordered another piece by Gyokudu. They have not shipped to India before, so I am keeping my fingers crossed. I wish that my piece came with a box though.

Thanks for sharing those photos.
