200 ml Gaiwan made of bone china. Very thin and light.

Wise men drink'n tea and a musician.
Don't know anything about age or artist, can some of you recognize hints of age by style or the meaning of the seal?

The mark said "made in Daoguang year" but the style seems to be much later. But it is a fine piece of art and quite collectible.

Is this Kyle Shen of NYC? If so, it's Mike V here. Welcome aboard! If not, welcome aboard anyway!

Antique/Vintage Tea and Tea Ware

by blairswhitaker » Aug 12th, '14, 13:17

Not sure how "antique" this is, but I bought it at an antique shop and couldn't think of anywhere better to post it. Experts please chime in. It's a paper thin porcelain cup with pad printing and a picture that appears at the bottom when held up to light. Really nice for showcasing a tippy Darjeeling, or brisk Assam.

If the blue decoration is printed, probably Meiji/Taishō era.

Here is some recent purchases that look older to me... Does anyone have any information?

After looking around myself I seem to have found some information about this cup and the one below. The bottom on the other hand is proving to be difficult.
"Mark: Da Ming Chenghua Nian Zhi - "Ming Dynasty Chenghua Period Make". This is possibly from the 1990's. After Simon Kwan's exhibition of 20th century high quality porcelain even late pieces were immitated and this might be one of them." - Gotheborg.com

blairswhitaker, I love that picture that comes through the porcelain when it is held up to the light. Now a dozen or so teachatters will spend hours in shops & yard sales looking for something similar. Thanks.

haha I got it in Kyoto, but I'm sure they were also made for export, still hoping for some more info on it though.

Hello all:

I believe that the cup that you have with the picture in the bottom is called lithophane. Hope this helps!

Best,
