lots of Bernard Leach pieces in that sale. I'm a tenmoku fan, and he had done nice stuff with it. His things in the sale are interesting for being included, but in terms of what I like, there are some Hamada Shoji tea bowls more to my taste.

Bernard Leach certainly made some lovely and elegant Sung-inspired pots. I think he was a fantastic decorator, but I prefer Hamada's most of the time ( especially his chawan).

Probably the only "modern" teaware I've fallen in love with. Something about this set just really makes me smile!

Too bad it's sold :(

I have been quite bowled over by the amazing series of pots he is putting out right now on Artistic Nippon. He's showing an astonishing range of styles and seem (to my minimally tutored eyes, at least) to be masterful examples of those styles.

This one was another of the newest additions that led to some drooling on the keyboard.

#3 looks like a marshmallow treat; agreed, #2 is clearly foamy ocean surf; #1 is just bold and powerful. Lovely pieces all.

These oni-hagi pieces are by 黒田岳 Kuroda Gaku. I was in a store where they sold his pieces, and was struck by the myriad of colors that came out of his work. Somehow, I made it out of there without an impulse buy. But I want to go back...

These are the actual pieces I was playing with. The color didn't come out from my camera phone (taken with the kind permission of the store manager) so I put in those samples up above.

Not the prettiest but it fits like a charm. The price tag for the houhin was a good 4x that cup. *cries. I may go back for the cup, but I don't need it. I just want it. What do I do???????? :)
