Got the gaiwan on a trip to Shanghai and the cup is from a pottery festival in Korea a few years back. I use the gaiwan mainly for teas I do not know!

Your new pot is simply gorgeous. The texture makes it look like it would be a pleasure to touch, too. *sighs appreciatively*hopeofdawn wrote:My brand new Petr Novak 'phoenix pot', accompanied by yokan (Japanese sweet bean jelly cake). I was recently introduced to this treat by a friend, and am now very addicted--it makes a perfect complement to the great darjeeling sample that came with the pot! And the pot brews beautifully as well--I love watching the change in the yohen colors as it the surface changes from wet to dry.
And I agree with you about yokan, it's tasty and the perfect accompaniment to all sorts of teas.

My cup arrived today. I have no idea how old it is, second hand, not new, I just liked the look of it in the auction listing and decided to take a punt.
Rice pattern, so perforated sides filled with translucent clay and glazed, drinking LiuAnGuaPian from it now after giving it a quick wash.

I recently bought some nice Chashakus including the following: Dark bamboo with lacquered bottom side and maki-e decoration.

Very lovely! Gorgeous photo's too!theroots wrote:I recently bought some nice Chashakus including the following: Dark bamboo with lacquered bottom side and maki-e decoration.
Does it have a cylinder like container inside the box? Or if not how is it mounted inside?
Re: NEW! Official Teaware of the Day!
Thank you!
Unfortunately there was no additional container beside the Tomobako so they just mounted it inside the box. But there was another chashaku included which was provided with a bamboo container:

for kiwi303 - rice pattern cup with stamped mark would probably be hong kong 60's -70's in my opinion. I can't read Chinese, so it is a guess, but the stamp and style seem to me to be of that period.
Re: NEW! Official Teaware of the Day!
I showed a few pics of it to a friend in China and she was impressed "Wow, QingLong Emperor!" Apparently the stamp on the bottom says it was made in the QingLong reign... I'm sceptical, But being charitable I would call it a reproduction rather than a counterfeit.TomVerlain wrote:for kiwi303 - rice pattern cup with stamped mark would probably be hong kong 60's -70's in my opinion. Whatever it may be, I like it.

The cup you posted, at best, is no older than 30/40 years.
Regards.
