A day late, but this was my Saturday tea. Trying something I should do more often--little teapot with big chawan.
Teapot is by Petr, of course. Chawan is a vintage Mishima-style piece, and tea is Taiwanteacraft's yuchi wild black tea.

As long as it's not a big teapot with a tiny teacup, I don't hesitate to go for it.

Re: NEW! Official Teaware of the Day!
I asked Petr Novak awhile back whether he would be able to make a tea roaster. He wanted to test a glaze to ensure it would withstand exposure to a flame. In any case, fast forward to a few days ago, and it came!
I used it over the weekend to freshen up a tea from my pumidor, and it did wonders for the tea. I've got a picture over here of the roaster and the tea. It has a good sized handle and good feel in the hands -- I had no problem shaking it over a sterno for 5 minutes or so. I'm excited to have a way to freshen a tea more quickly....!

Ooo, what a beautiful nuka piece! And your photography is always so wonderful to look at, especially the close-in shots. One think I did wonder about, though, when I first saw it--does the smooth vertical shape of the lid knob make it harder to handle? That would be something I would worry about, especially if my fingers were wet...

Not so far. It is tall enough that it is easy to grasp.hopeofdawn wrote:.....does the smooth vertical shape of the lid knob make it harder to handle? That would be something I would worry about, especially if my fingers were wet...
Re: NEW! Official Teaware of the Day!
After some shipping issues, I received a kyusu from Inge Nielsen in the mail earlier today and promptly put it to work! I brewed up some 2009 Dayi 0622 sheng. I like this unglazed clay quite a bit. Based on the last time I tried this 0622 in a gaiwan I think it brought the bitterness down and accentuated the sweetness in a really nice way. I'm looking forward to experimenting with it more soon, especially with shu and young sheng! I'm sure it would be nice for sencha as well, but I don't drink much of that these days. It's a bit large for one person, at least for gong fu type steeping, but considering the favorable effects it seems to have on the tea/water, I can see using this a lot for slightly larger pours!

Re: NEW! Official Teaware of the Day!
Such a lovely buttery color. I think it will look terrific at every phase of staining to the darker shade Inge mentioned in her topic, though.
Re: NEW! Official Teaware of the Day!
It is staining super-quickly too! I've used it twice and it already has some dark staining down around/below the spout. (There is a bit of a drip, so a little runs down that area, but that is no problem.)debunix wrote:Such a lovely buttery color. Edit: After going back and checking it just now, Much more staining appeared around the outside of the pot in general since the second usage the other day.

Today I'd like to share my first self-carved/cut/sanded Chashaku. It's made of Jet/lignite and red gold.
