@ Muadeeb: I think we are all suffering from a slight case of the old green eyed monster here. That yunomi is beautiful! Those colours really pop!

Today I got to enjoy some Yin Zhen from Teaspring in this lovely combo:
A wonderful teapot (which is a joy to use in every respect) by Andrzej Bero supported by a Bizen yunomi from Kazumasa Ohira:

Not long ago I mentioned Cadogan "lidless teapots" -- I came across a reproduction of one and bought it just for the fun of playing around. It's a fun piece. They were mostly used for wine, but also for hot water for tea services...

Image

I tried using it as a hot water pot while in the study today. I'm drinking mate de coca here, since it's an herbal that isn't too picky about infusion temperatures or times. Coca tea works really well in small gongfu style pots. And since it's impossible to import whole leaves anymore I don't want to waste it. (Don't get me started in the laws about this plant... they make little sense.)

In any case, here is a video I made of it pouring:

It's too small and annoying to fill (fills on the bottom) to be practical-- but it was fun to use to keep the pot warm.

This is how it is built on the inside:

Anyone else have any crazy tea "gadgets" -- just for the heck of it?

I'm always on the look out for something like this:

but for more like $20 not $2000!

I was just reading the second issue of Leaf Magazine and found this article on the artist who invented this style of lidless pot:

Skip down to page 10 for info on the Guyi Pot.

Wow, Teng Ting-Sou (Deng Ding-Sou?) is an artist and an innovator, I'm very glad to know who invented this kind of teapot. I may need to start saving so I can get one some day. This is a very new idea I see now, and so the only way to get one is to buy it from an artist. Makes the price seem so much more reasonable. It just can't be bought mass-produced... and it takes great skill, if the lid is not airtight this pot will not work!

Image

Just knowing what they are called has helped me to find so many articles!  I don't know if it is true that this makes the tea better since it isn't pushed to one side of the pot when pouring... and since less air can escape.

But I wonder if when brewing an rare old tea this would make the later infusions more robust-- it would seem it would better retain heat.

Though for me the elegance and magic of the pouring method is reason enough to want one. :D

I love to kayak around NYC, not many people do, but while exploring north brother island (on the other side of the hell gate) I found many shards of pottery on the beach.

I've put one of these to work holding our cups.

Nice! I like that look. Still a nice piece of pottery even though broken, is now finding new life on a tea table! Really gets at the idea of "there is no trash" idea that can be found in Zen Buddhism.

You got one of those Yunomi! A few months ago I stumbled upon them and thought they looked incredible. Great purchase, how do you like it?
