Hello everybody,
I'm new to Yixing teapots. Please help me identify this pot which
I recently got in NYC Chinatown. Thanks

Here another one where I broke a lid

OK first try:

1. Zi ni
2. Qing Shui Ni

I don't know if it's the photos or what but it looks like there is some really wierd texturing on the first pot.?

Maybe its best not to try to "identify" the clay of every teapot. Its not like some chunky teapots are going to be made of legendary clay anyway. The purple one is made of purple clay, the red one is made of red clay.

I think what edkrueger meant to say was zi ni and hong ni, and welcome to the forum!

I was actually saying, in my subtle way, be nicer to the new folks. We all started out as Yixing infants at some point.

Ting, I suspected you meant that too.

I still know very little about yixing clays. I did, however, "identify" the clay: the purple one is made of purple clay (zi ni), the red one is made of red clay (hong ni). I don't think there is much to identify as far as the clay goes.

Since I have paid only $18 for each teapot, I was not sure if they were made from real Yixing clay. And Edkrueger was right, they look like one purple and one red to me but I wanted to find out if there is something more to it

It's the photos. I resized the pictures, that is why first pot looks weird.
