As Exempt said, the smell is gone the next day and I've never noticed any aroma of glue on anything I've used it on.

As far as fun goes, I can understand you want to figure it out. My wife shares this trait. But, for me, the other side is the desired result. JB Weld looks like it can be more precise than the urushi and much easier to use. A do it yourself look to a Yixing teapot will not do it justice. But, I wish you luck.
