The larger one holds a pretty impressive amount of tea.

They recommend that you use it for fully oxidized teas, like my heaping helping of Darjeeling, because it is not completely air tight even with the two lids. I buy sencha in smaller quantities, so I got a few small screw lid tins for these.

I think it is a pretty cool looking piece, I bought it as much for decoration as for actually storing tea. It works pretty well for both.

Like your other tokoname pieces, it is expertly crafted. Everything fits together very well, and it is much lighter than you would expect.

Lovely teaware indeed. That fukugata certainly gets around. :)

I know this is an odd question, but where did you get the wooden plate under your tetsubin? It's lovely and I certainly wouldn't mind having something like that for myself.

I am sorry to say that I am not sure where that piece came from, Mary. My mom brought it while she was visiting. I have seen a lot of wood trivets specifically for this purpose, but they do not look nearly as nice. Will ask.

As for the chatsubo, they recommend that you only use it to store fully oxidized teas. Even though both lids are a very good fit, they are not completely air tight. It is a very cool looking piece, and holds a ton of tea. If you are looking for a functional accent piece to your collection, this is it.

Found this antique server & fell in love with it. It's perfect for housing my teaware collection as well as having a drawer for silverware & napkins. I like English type pieces & have combined old & new. Happy Sipping!

So many indeed! ... and thanks for sharing them.

Are the cups with the little fish swimming on the bottom a common theme in Chinese teaware? They certainly are cute, but do you know of any history or meaning beyond the obvious?

I think the ware with the fish swimming on the bottom is absolutely stunning. Reminds me of looking into a pond filled with coy.... Yet, these fish are swimming in tea!

They look very similar to these cups, which I've been lusting over forever.

Unfortunately, I'm so graceless and the cups so shallow that my floor would likely taste more tea than I would.

How about these bad boys:

I guess the fish isn't technically swimming in the tea, as it is a little high up on the cup. Flying fish, perhaps?

Gorgeous pot. Did you say you got that pot from 5,000 Friend on ebay? How did you clean it?

Thanks for the pix.

Here's my contribution to the wonderful world of swimming fishies! I think Sal said he's got this set too.
