Thank you! Luckily I am rather far from the place on which the earthquake happened: Venice is sitting on a clay bed, so it's a comparatively rather quiet area.

Thanks for the explanations too: shino looked to me very similar to hagi, and now I'm waiting for my first shino chawan...

Sooner or later it will be a hagi, but a new cupboard is needed before that ;)

Thanks Marshal & Chip for the washing advice.

Thanks chamekke for the very interesting post on Shino vs. Hagi

It just reminded me I have a set of cups to photograph and post when I get back to the West Coast for comment and evaluation. I had a beautiful bowl which I think must have been shino-ware which was a gift from husband's business trip. I broke it! (cringing at the memory in horror still).

I suppose that's what happens when you think things are so precious they go up on a HIGH shelf!

Did you order a Shino? You can post that here, we are not Hagi snobs!

Glad to hear all is well where you are!

Yikes, all my good chawan-s are located on the top shelf as well, I was looking at them the other day up there. Safe, but are they? At least safe from cats.

I'd like to take my own pictures, so when it'll reach I'll post: as for shelves, and speaking about earthquakes, I'd reconsider keeping my pottery on the top one...

My problem was I was taking it down and not paying enough attention! (Looking at the counter top below - where I intended to place the bowl - instead of just keeping my eye on the bowl) Gotta remember: keep your eye on the bowl!

The unofficial Shino ware Chip? A good time to show off your Shino collections : )
We need to start up a Shino thread, in that case! Could be fun :D

That nezumi-Shino bowl above was mine - the one with the interlinked circles. Otherwise I don't have many Shino wares, at least not in the chawan department. There's this little guy with the traditional design known as "cypress fence":

And this "Shino-esque" chawan by Vancouver Island potter Lynne Johnson:

P.S. Shino really does feel lovely in the hands...

So far I think this is the nicest size chawan I have for matcha.
It is just perfect. The balance and weight of it are sheer perfection.
Sublimely white and stunning to behold and hold.

Wow, Victoria, that's one of the nicest hagi chawan I've seen. A.N.? or MagokoroDo?
