If you look closely at amorphis' chawan, you'll see it's anything but simple. Delicate opalescent sunrise hues, curvy shape, and yes - that's evidence of wall translucence (I inquired, because it caught me offguard), are summer form-like, while the pinch-thumbed texture reminds one of an impressionist painting. It's like a lovely pearl.

This is a flavor of hybrid chawan I would seek out; there is no parody of form here.

As promised, here are some pictures of my chawan by D. Michael Coffee (shyrabbit on etsy) that I just received a few days ago. I really love the oilspot tenmoku glaze on this one. Michael is also a super nice guy to deal with.

Heh, I have the other one, the "less perfect sibling" on reserve. Sweet aquisitions. :D

I knew "pihc" was you! I really like the other one that you have reserved too - the sage nuka. It's an awesome blue.

Amorphis, your chawan pattern reminds me of the dancing droplet splash pattern a heavy rain on pavement. Chips looks more like mysterious coastal fog.

Still not seeing any green, P. Not a good sign, if you say there is olive present.

I actually swooped on yours, then Michael threw me a curve ball with the sibling, and I opted for the prodigal son. But both are really beautiful.

Then yes, this aqua color was so captivating, that I had to get it before "Seeker" gobbled this one up too.
Oh yeah, coming to TeaCave on Mt. Fuji soon! 8)

Chip,

You are a quick and nimble acquirer of tea ware.

In the spirit of keeping this thread alive, and to contrast with my shyrabbit tenmoku, here is a tenmoku bowl by the late Ryuzan Aoki:

Completely different style from Michael's that I posted previously. The shape is very precise and perfect (and it is pure white porcelain clay) and the glaze is much more refined and less organic looking. Both are really beautiful, but interesting to see how different tenmoku glaze can be from different potters.

A choice Aoki piece from the acclaimed master of the black glaze. Didn't expect to see one pictured here.

Wow - some gorgeous chawan!
I haven't checked this topic out for awhile - too busy!
But, IMHO, this thread has been quiet for too long!!
Here is a new chawan by Rob Fornell that I am just head over heals in love with - it reminds me of Yosemite, mountain ranges, caves, stalactites and stalagmites, there are eyes, and faces, ...
The Mino style Tengu Chawan:

(Please forgive my extrememly amateurish photography - I think some white balance issues? I don't even know. I tried to remedy, but, oh well.)
Now I've got to have some matcha!!! :D

Thanks for sharing the photos, Seeker. You captured the essence of the chawan very nicely indeed!

I enjoy seeing everyone's photos, from the amateur to the professional pics here on TeaChat.
