Hey Shawn, I have a little earthenware gaiwan from you that I'm enjoying immensely!

I have a question about it, since I'm making pots of my own now. What is that claybody? And if you don't mind sharing, how do you make up the white feldspar decoration on these? We're limited to cone 6 electric for most of our firings, but since this was earthenware I was hoping it would be in that range. I'd love to be able to sling some spar on some pots, and the clay body just works so nicely being unglazed!

Thanks!

Just unwrapped my Shawn parcel, oh boy, I love this stuff. Really handsome, handy, toasty shib and two lovely cups. The "flying saucer" extended-foot yunomi is spectacular, very warm and melty glaze and luscious rich color, and that little rim just finds its place so comfortably in hand; the bowl is elegant and earthy. It's a beautiful trio and very autumnal together - blue-greys to creamy whites to deep rusts to vivid cinnamon, yum.
This is very fine work and many thanks, Shawn!

If I keep this up I'm going to have to come out of retirement.

"I am but a simple monk, quietly enjoying my peaceful, hermetic life with just my good dog, my dogeared books, my battered zafu and my humble cup of tea. Oh, and my little teapot, um teapots, um various brewing vessels, um burgeoning collection of beautiful tea-related vessels ... "

So, Shawn, when's the next firing... ?

Me too, and I've been really evil about posting any. This is because my iphone camera developed a permanent blur after a spill a year ago and I've given my excellent real camera to my daughter. She's promised to meet up with me for a wares photo shoot and I'll try to hold her to it. She's the better photographer, anyway.

Recently received a threesome of the little shibs, small, really small and teeny. They are realllly nice. I have to break out the Gyokuro that sat all summer to try them out.

Also picked up a few more of Shawn's creative cups.

Thanks Shawn!!!

Heads-up. I did want to mention, it appears Shawn's email was hijacked. Today I received a couple emails that contained only a link ... which of course should not be opened.

I bought 2 of Shawn's tiny gaiwans a few months ago and they're as functional as they're pretty. Sadly I broke the cup of the larger set and there are no more on his etsy site.

I'm sorry it's been so long since I've been around. I have some catching up to do!
This morning we unloaded the most recent wood-firng. I'm pretty excited about this new shino glaze. It's pretty much all feldspar, which isn't all that unusual, what's different is the variation of the particle sizes, from fine powder to pebble size chunks. It gives the glaze a very different texture and appearance than my usual shino. From what I understand, this is probably closer to the original Japanese Shino glazes.

Great glaze Shwan! Great firing!
Are those big parts of feldspar in glaze not in the body, yes? (I hope you understand what I mean)
