I am really enjoying this cup a lot... very hard to capture in the poor lighting of my apartment, but really wonderful in the sunlight.

Very hard to photograph.....this is the best I got of the inside...

Image

I had to go upside down to get the pattern on the outside as I wanted it...

Image

but it's pretty right side up too

Image

Even the footsie looks nice upside down

Image

This obviously is a different cup, a little white porcelain cup that appeared as a bonus in with two others I'd paid for, and it's delicate and translucent, which turns out to be a very difficult quality to capture...

Thanks for posting debunix. I just saw your post now. Nice shots and I dig how you side-lit the porcelain, makes it look all glassy and stuff 8)

Had to switch gears in my making cycle today. New York State put into effect a burning ban which is going to set back my next wood firing :( Totally understandable though. It wouldn't take much more then a stray spark to set things on fire around here. We need rain SO BAD!!

Wonderful crackling on that glaze--will be very interesting to see how it stains over time.

Thanks! Definitely enjoying it. Having a little YM in it right now!

It took a few tries to get the photos right. First I tried really soft, bright light all around the cup, but I realized that without shadows the texture disappears. So I ended up just holding a single flash in my hand on low power. The hard light created lots of shadow detail which really brought out the texture and cracks. Just check out the glaze blob at the top. Easy to see the difference shadow makes!

That's a REALLY beautiful cup.
You can also tell from its shape that it does a great job at being a cup. Smooth pour and no dribble around the lip, I bet.

As always, great work on the photography, minor_glitch! Thanks for the time and effort you put into these posts.

Oh WOW. Thanks for the tip minor! That makes a huge difference. I think there is something to be said about the black background too, especially with that type of single point lighting. There are no harsh shadows in the ground. Very cool :D

Shawn's "secret shino glaze" is stunning. Reminds me of Mars.

... everytime I see these and similar ones from Shawn, I think of human muscle illustrated in educational human anatomy drawings.

Pretty cool!

I need to post some photos of recent arrivals but photobucket has been hating my Vista PC for a while now. It has been extremely frustrating actually.
