And it's even got a dripsicle! What could be cooler than hare's fur plus dripsicle?!

(swoon)

John,
That's a beautiful chawan. I was wondering if the aptly called dripsicle :D has a more (boring) technical name?

John Baymore ... Wood-fired Chadogu and Pottery

Holly hell, just saw this last bowl. Ido is one of my most favorite shapes. That tenmoku glaze is a real stand out.

Thanks all. Glad you like it. I did too.

I literally just got the word about 1 hour ago, the Hare's Fur Ido Chawan pictured above (and again here) will be in the Kansas City Teabowl National 2014 Exhibition, 9/19/2014 - 11/19/2014 at Thornhill Gallery, Avila University in Kansas City, MO .

I got this note from the competition/exhibition organizers: " Thanks to you we had the highest number of applicants ever, but by an odd twist, the jurors chose the smallest number of accepted pieces ever. "

So it gets more and more competitive each year, I guess.

Having my work accepted into this particular competition series has seemed to sort of become a "tradition" for me of late. Don't know what I'll do when I don't have one get in there??? Seppuku? .

FYI...... because of the exhibition's recently instituted maximum price restrictions, if you are interested, you can get one of my Chawan from here below my more usual prices. (That policy has unfortunately caused me to consider not entering if they continue it.)

So... I'm a happy camper! :D

best,

......................john

When does the exhibition 'open' for those of us who can only view it online?

And congrats! The dripsicle haresfur is certainly a worthy entry for an exhibit.

John Baymore ... Wood-fired Chadogu and Pottery

Feel free. I'm rather pleased to have come up with it myself--but you made the actual dripsicle that inspired the name!

The latest from the ongoing program "As The Potters Wheel Turns".......:

I just was informed yesterday that I will have the honor to be presenting a solo lecture specifically on Chawan at the 49th annual conference of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) happening in Providence, Rhode Island at the end of next March. This is now the fifth time I have been a presenter at an NCECA conference since my first presentation at the one in 1984 ( in Boston).

Not related to teawares.... but I am also presenting at the 46th General Assembly of the International Academy of Ceramics this coming September, in Dublin, Ireland.

John's even more a happy camper. :D

best,

I'm fascinated by the patches of thin red amidst thick black lines between the thick frosty dollops of white glaze. Cool.
