Hello Petr
I thought I'd better take the conversation on clay over here. I am curious to know about the clays you use. How much of the clay you work with do you source from your local environment? Do you add grog or anything else to it before working with it? What commercial clays do you use for your teapots, if any? Do you use dirty porcelain? Sorry if you have already put this information on your websites, I often check your sites but always get lost day-dreaming when looking at your pieces ...
Best

Re: Petr Novák - Pots under influence of tea
Hi Inge,
About 90% of clay we use are Czech clays, we are lucky to have rich deposits of diferent clays here. There are few small manufacturs who make clays and we buy most what we need for our production. They have quite wide menu to choose from, as those manufactures are small, family bussineses, clays are not so stable as from big German companies and can vary from batch to batch. But we see them as more live...We can quite easily source rough clay, almost for free, but so far we use it just for smaller part of what we do. Still looking for way how to prepare such clay an effective way. We quite offten mix clays togehter, adding some grog or other stuff if needed.
As for the porcelain, we mostly use technical porcelain sourced in faktory which make insulators from it. It is nice to work with and catching flames much better then clean ones. But it is not translucent. Time to time we use translucent porcelain from France (Limoges-TM10), you can buy it in http://www.wolbring-keramikbedarf.de/ It is closer to you then to us:) It is quite tricky material, but I like it
If you have any more questions feel free to ask!

As most of you probably know, chawans are not my main focus. Mostly because I drink matcha just time to time. Not beiing so involved, I dont feel so confortable on this field. Here is one of my humble contributions. Mirka helped me with glaze and firing techique so lets called our joint piece.

So much gorgeous stuff--it makes me sad I have no money right now.
I don't need another treebark pot, I don't need another treebark pot, I don't need another treebark pot--if I keep saying it, I'll eventually believe it, right?

I need a tree bark pot! I'm on the waiting list for a slightly smaller one than the one up on that site right now. Once I have that, my teapot shopping will be complete. Really.
Re: Petr Novák - Pots under influence of tea
I was doing the same chanting when I hit the site earlier and luckily all those lovely pieces disappeared later when someone bought it. I got no budget for anything in the cart now. Sigh! Just have to keep chanting.....I don't need this ...I don't need thathopeofdawn wrote:So much gorgeous stuff--it makes me sad I have no money right now.

Shhh.... Don't tell anyone, but there are some new pieces up on Darjeeling.cz. Really, really beautiful stuff. I bought a kyusu and a tray.
I'm impatiently waiting for them to arrive so I can hold them in my hands...

I just had the pleasure to see and hold Petr beautiful pieces in real life last weekend in Taichung’s Qiu Shan Tang
I also met the creator himself as well as few other fellow tea chatters there (Andrzej, Klasek from Darjeeling.cz and 茶藝-TeaArt08). Very nice to finally put a face on the people and have a cuppa with them!
I was surprised how delicate the pieces are in reality! Photos do not do them justice at all! Quite a scene to see so many of them side by side accompanied by Andrzej’s pottery and the wood work from Tea-Art08!
And I am sure not something the Taiwanese tea friends see a lot! The style is distinctly different from what people are used to see.
Anyone in the region should take the opportunity and have a look!

Was funny though – a tea house in the middle of Taiwan, a tea table full of foreigners with little hair on top and a lot around their chins
