I am a big fan of Petr's work but so far I haven't got any of his work because I have no luck and was too late for the pieces I like. I will be more vigilant and pledge to own a few pieces by next year. :D

His work is great and full of soul!

I like it too-nice chawan.

And this is an interesting partially glazed teapot....

Last night I was brewing up a sheng puerh in this little unglazed shibo

Image

and I realized it holds on to some fruity elements of the tea scent like my little treebark pot does. I wonder what the pot I linked to above would do with a nice puerh or oolong?

I saw this cup in Petr's available now listing, but for many days there was only the one photo, with no additional information. I did follow several of the 'Rules for Buying Teapots' including particularly 'Don't buy now'--I waited days, maybe even weeks, before I fired off an e-mail to ask Petr about it; and 'Only buy things you love..... Only buy something that absolutely looks amazing.'

Image

The snowflake glaze gives an amazing texture

Image

It reminds me of the 'Flower of Forgetfulness' from the Heinlein story, 'We also walk dogs'--described as a Ming bowl of great beauty and subtlety, that one could lose oneself in contemplating.

Image

And right now I'm enjoying an inaugural session with some Lao Ban Zhang (2009 loose mao cha from Norbu, a very special tea), brewed up in the treebark pot that accompanied this bowl, purchased to see if the wonderful effect of my other treebark pot on oolong could be extended to puerh. So far, so good. It's even developing a very nice scent. Here it is compared to its older sibling

Image

These little treebark pots display quite a rainbow of subtle colors

Image

and that inspired a bit of play with photoshop, to emphasize the spectrum of colors in the new one

Image

So nice that they were delivered today, when I was home and ready to receive them.

Guess what appeared in the garden today?

Image

It really looks like it belongs out there with the things that grew, doesn't it?

Beautiful newbies, debunix! Hopefully you will really love them for many years! Be careful, they may simply hide in your garden!

And amazing looking Chawan, Petr!

... and the ring of amazing teapots will be picked up at the PO tomorrow!

Part of the anticipation of receiving Petr-Yaki is that sometimes he includes a little surprise inside. Maybe he did, maybe he did not ...

The anticipation--and the reality--of receiving Petr-Yaki is the key antidote to the teaware lust that arises from viewing such lovely new pieces. Can't wait to see your new gems in action.

Everything is white outside here ... so might have to pick a white one to "play" outside.

Such terrific new pieces - and that cup is astonishing and really especially magical, debunix, wow. The little shell wadding mark just there is such an elegant surprise! (I remember that story - well-named.) Your photos always reveal your deeply attentive and appreciative eye.
There are some beauties in this firing, as always. I'll be watching my mail for my new Petr yunomi and watching the snow settle here, a good day for a long, grateful tea session.

Debunix, big thanks for sharing those wonderful picutres and descriptions. Now (out of curiousity) I have to read "We also walk dogs". Thanks for inspiration.

Matcha from another day...it looks like I am making a cream from bamboo leaves, but I am really not:)
