Tea of course. Haha. That vase is gorgeous! I saw it on his blog. Did you buy it? I'll bet it is even more beautiful in person. I'm becoming quite a fan of Seong-il's work.
There were 2 in his studio with this type of glazing. I bought the larger mouthed one plus 2 more that haven't arrived yet.

It helps that Seong il is a devoted tea drinker. He understands the ergonomics as well as the look and feel of teaware. When you hold his teaware, you can immediately feel the weight and balance and harmony that is present in his work. His eye for color and design is very good. He is someone who has stepped away from the traditional Korean path in ceramics and has struck out on his own path but has not abandoned the traditions.

These look ready to add a LOT to someone's enjoyment of tea: beautiful, functional, practical.

Kohiki chawan

by Seong-il Hong » Jul 1st, '10, 12:09

hello everyone,

Now I introduce to my kohiki teabowl. Kohiki has a history of between korea(Choseon dinasty)& japan long time ago it made to Boseong in south korea so it use to made clay in Boseong they want to be make white porcelain but it include a lot of iron it's a very dark so potter of Boseong use to white kaolin slip because hide to dark claybody sometimes they are difficult to find high quality kaolin at last often appeared iron mark (pink color) into the bowl. the japanese people of that period think that it's a beautiful things so nowadays many of people likes antique because potters in korea use to low quality kaolin(say to 'pink kaolin') that make a kohiki bowls. it has a some pink dots from pinholes
Now Boseong kohiki is a very famous to teapeople in korea and japan
