Firebug Pottery- Teaware from local sources

Hi, I'm just starting to get situated on here, I am a potter in Eugene, Or. I really got into teaware because of my fascination with sung-dynasty glazes, as well as the qualities of the clays used. This same fascination also led me to developing a body of work from locally sourced materials, which works well in Oregon as we are a very volcanic state, and many materials I need are close at hand. I often recover materials that have been misplaced by construction or other projects, as I think re-appropriation of waste in all forms is critical in our modern culture. I will be posting work as it comes out of the kiln, and welcome any questions or conversation.

Absolutely! I think "potter" is just a short way of saying "controlled pyromaniac"

Nice pots, and in especially nice sizes. Do you build in filters?

welcome Jayme,

I like the soft feeling of your kyusu...are those made from "Oregon" clay?

best

Yes, the clay actually came from the excavation for the new Matthew Knight basketball arena- which is within 1/4 mile of the ceramics department here- talk about local clay! :P

Well, I've been making production work, haven't been on the Kyusu project for a little while, also working on making my next batch of clay, so once I get that aged a little, I'll get back to it. I'll get some pics of those lids on here someday. I got some small tea bowls in the kiln, should have them out by next Monday, I'll post pics if I do any good. :D
