Googling 'shiro geshou' mostly brings up some of Cory's posts here, and endless manga-related links.

Cory, can you tell us a little about the use of shiro geshou in your teaware?
thanks debunix
shiro geshou is a white slip. sometimes made with a deflocculant. its inspired from Korean Buncheong ceramics in which a white slip was applied over an iron clay body. in my case, i love the gestural, brush stroke that gives a strong sense of freedom and calligraphic movement. i no pauses, just a swift, quick movement. i use these cool straw brushes availble, the stiff bristles lend a very unique character, then i layer by misting more slip, like a haze or fog if u will, to create a more sense of depth.

Thanks for the explanation. Googling Buncheong led to some fun ogling beautiful ceramics.

I hadn't really 'gotten' before how pretty and functional those little white swirls are when there is tea in the cup, but when I saw one in action, it was very cool.

the white swirls, calligraphic brushstrokes create a 'whirl' hypnotic effect w/ the frothy green bubbles. cheers !

You take shells, press them into the clay, and fire it?

thanks for your comment

to get the ash rolling horizontally on the chawan, i place the chawan on its side and on shells which don't burn during to firing. all the ash movement, forming the green 'dragonfly eye' or 'biidoro' is serendipitous.

u can imagine, there is a lot of risk firing in this manner.
thank you for asking !

Fantastic results, and I never would have guessed the technique--not at all what I was imagining.
