Thank you very much! It was the comments and requests of the people here and at Teance in Berkeley that got me to try teapots. I think I have the process down and will be making a lot more of them, some with glazed interiors and some without. So far I like the cane handles best.

When I get more done, I'll post here.

my two year old is running off with a couple chawans... have to go get them...

Hey all. My soda kiln is down still so I have been working on a few things that are a little different. I have a few teapots on line that I thought I would share with you.

Probably not anyone's sort of thing here, but I am really enjoying making them.

Those are some neat & funky teapots. Can you give us an idea of the size & scale of them?

Thanks Chip! I have a welder coming on Tuesday to give an estimate. My kiln is shared with three others so I have been trying to work with them and get concensus, but I think it is time to just do it and they seem OK with that. Hopefully by summer I am up and running totally.

Debunix, they are 16-20oz. The Hermit is a little smaller, maybe 16oz. I think they are larger than most people here want, but this is a little different genre... Aiming for the "art teapot" right now. Fun to work on. Functional, but not practical.

BTW, these are all thrown and altered. Even the flat parts are thrown. I tried hand building but just couldn't get the hang of it. Sort of fun to point them out to a potter and tell them your wheel is so out of line that you throw flat... LOL.

Hi all. Some more teapots. There are more listed at my store http://mossbeachceramics.etsy.com and some more guinomi.

Now most of this is non traditional, but as I said before, looking for more things that I can do at home.

Note on the prices, there are a couple that are REALLY high and I did that so that they don't sell (!) whilst they are being judged for an exhibition. If they go for that I'd need the money too much to say no, but would like to get them in otherwise. Sadly not that ethical, but I want people to see my work.

Regarding Monk's cups
Moss wrote:Might be a little hard to keep the proportions. Smaller is easier to throw for me when they angle out a little more. The current cups hold about 240ml.

I can make these cups in 80ml. They are going to feel more like shot glasses though. Would people be interested in them at this size? I can do a few in the next firing.
Still waiting for smaller Monk's cups, if 80ml is too tricky how about 120 ml ?

Problem, thanks for reminding me actually, is that the soda kiln was down for 8 months. Nothing going through. Now it is welded, I need to clean it out and get a new roof on it then I will test fire. I am going to throw some monk's cups this weekend and will get them in the test firing. Broken kilns suck when you have toddlers and don't know a welder...

Good to hear!

I loved the outside of your Monk's cups, don't know too much about the inside, but since our first discourse, my tastes now favour a paler interior - better to see at least some idea of the colour of the tea.

It is of no consequence, however they turn out they will be appreciated!
