Re: Wood Fired Ceramics by Bill Perrine (Split-Fire Pottery)
Hi everyone,
Just finished firing the kiln. I was planning on firing Friday, but between the heat, thunderstorms with 6" of rain possible, Mary Ann's class reunion... it didn'y happen until today. My Friend Chris from just over the border in Pennsylvania came up to have more experience with wood firing. Started at 6 am with the candling and finished a fantastic firing at 8:30 pm... I'm tired. But I will unload it soon and post some pics as soon as I take them. Sorry it's so late posting this...
Chris stoking so I can go eat something.
The load all ready to go yesterday.
During the firing, this is a reduction cycle where there is more fuel than oxygen... makes the colors do very nice things... and for the record, I make a neutral carbon footprint. I am putting back the same carbon/dioxide that the trees took in, it's "heavy" and goes back into the soil and trees, not up into the atmoshphere as pollution.
some tea bowls and a tea pot in this picture. I'm off to bed.
Cheers,
Bill

Looking good! The flame shooting out of the chimney is a nice shot!
Re: Wood Fired Ceramics by Bill Perrine (Split-Fire Pottery)
Great pics Bill! I really like that second pic, it still amazes me to see the color of the pieces going in, and then the color coming out of the kiln. Magic!

Thanks for the update Bill - very interesting seeing the stages of your work.

Re: Wood Fired Ceramics by Bill Perrine (Split-Fire Pottery)
Thank you Mrs. Chip and everyone,
I have the door (a wicket) down and finally have a couple of pictures of the pieces. This is the front view too, not seeing the side view where you can see the change from ash to color, which I like better.
and a closer view of the bottom two thirds. I have four tea pots in this load and I quickley looked at the temmoku one and it goes from the goldish ash on the front to a stricking plum on the back. The others were too hot to grab still. The full view is ...
It will cool soon...

Nice! How long does it take for everything to cool down? I don't know if I could stand the suspense!

What's the SO stand for?Chip wrote:Looking great Bill!

I'm having a little trouble waiting for the cool down... this is one of the hardest parts!! I did reach in there with my hot gloves and snapped a few more pics. There are some real nice ones in this load. Now that I am confident with my firing, I've been putting more into the pieces. Here's some pics, I like looking at them and learning about the glaze's interaction with this firing and the tweaks I made this time. This shino tea pot is going to look so good with it's grape vine handle on it.
... this yunomi is cool as is this one
.
Then this tea pot came out blurry because my arm was burning, but good for now...
and this one shows the transition of ash to plum color.
And this little cup is nice...
Looks like Tuesday is unloading day, it's getting dark and still too hot.
Will I sleep much tonight?
