Wood Fired Ceramics by Bill Perrine (Split-Fire Pottery)

by T-session » Jun 3rd, '09, 22:51

Hi everyone,
I was invited here by one of your members and I'm glad I was. I've been roaming around and getting a feel for what's on here. I am a wood fire potter in Central New York, in Homer. I use stoneware clay and fire to cone 11 usually. I find cone 10 shinos are at their best when pushed a little. I love the way that the natural fly ash and flame interact with the shinos. I also have been trying new glazes all the time. I'll post some of my work and tell me what you think.

Also, if you are interested in seeing more of my pieces, please feel free to check out my web site at http://www.splitfirepottery.etsy.com.

I now have a blog: splitfirepottery.blogspot.com if you want to read and see more of my daily life. Firings, pets, kiln and pottery are some of the things you will see there. Thanks!

I also have a flickr site at http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=splitfirepottery
Thanks and I'm looking forward to reading your comments. Bill

I'm having trouble inserting images. Is there someone that can help me? Thanks

It is a great piece isn't it?! It was the first I saw by Bill - the second was a similar bowl but in red. Anyway, you can drool all you want, but I just bought her :D

I am glad you got my invitation, Bill - welcome to the teachat!!

Wowzer says the woozl :P
“Take some more tea,” the March Hare said to Alice, very earnestly.
“I’ve had nothing yet,” Alice replied in an offended tone: “so I ca’n’t take more.”
“You mean you ca’n’t take less,” said the Hatter: “it’s very easy to take more than nothing.”

Holy Smokes !!! And that's not a wood firer pun, just a saying I've had from when I was a kid. Thank you all for such a nice warm welcome!! And a big thank you to Aphroditea for telling me about you all. She saw my ceramics on my etsy site and I just found out this morning she was the reason I needed to leave feedback... meaning a sale. :D I was looking at all the fantastic pieces, the Hawaiin guy... oh there it is (I'm only semi computer savy) Cory Lum's pieces are beautiful and I looked at the (I"m checking the topic review below to see the names... I looked quickly late last night and don't remember yet)work of Moss ( a fellow etsy potter) nice pieces Matt! and also the chicagopotter, Chris yours looked great too. I saw there was more artisains to check out soon. I need to get going, my students are coming soon, prep time, but I appreciate the warm welcome. I'll try that image posting tonight if I get a chance. My work is nicely different from the other artisains. Big art show this weekend, my wife and I are busy getting ready.

Bill

*blush* and woozl's sweet!

I just wanted people to see Bill's work! By the way, here is red one I was talking a bout earlier:
Image

And here is my second favorite of the white shino pieces:

And I was talking with another Teachatter earlier about something similar to this jar for something to put spent leaves in:
Image

I could even imagine this as a larger lidded piece for a water jar!

Big thanks to Dresden for detailed explanation for posting pics. Also, Aphroditea, thank you for posting some pics for me. Here's a favorite tea pot and another tea bowl I like. Lets see if this works. :?
