After 5 days of serious pleasurable study of Shyrabbit's Etsy shop I decided not to wait for the next kiln. I just ordered 2 beautiful yunomi.




I find more and more uses for my Kim Eung Chul copper glazed teapot and server for teas like genmaicha and jasmine. This yunomi will complete the ensemble. Group photos to follow when the cup arrives.



I ordered this yunomi just because I couldn't forget it. I think it'll pair well with my Bezo hobin because that also has a sort of antique feel.

Edit: I just heard from Shyrabbit via Etsy - the yunomi are packed and ready for the post office.

and there was another piece I'd been watching for a while that was amazingly still waiting for me--after all, most cups travel more comfortably in pairs, don't they?

Carbon trapped magic. It overcame my wish to hold the line on teaware purchases, but to be fair, I'd just learned of a broken cup that had to be replaced....

No. After the latest indiscretion, none could be allowed to.

Ah yes, the blue one caught my eye. We don't seem to see that particular shade of blue very often; this one also has a striking splash of purple in one spot.

Exactly the sort of detail that can be so captivating as you turn a cup in hand between sips, that little splash of purple--and it apparently captivated someone else already--just checked and it's gone.

I have been loving the two shyrabbit yunomi that found their way under my Christmas tree, but apparently their glazes are simply too stunning for my simple camera to really capture. Still, I would hate not to share them at all, so here's the best I can do for one of them.

Perfectly sized to play with this kyusu from Andrzej.

The flow in those Nuka glazes is hypnotic, and goes wonderfully with that striking kyusu.

I love studying these cups and all of the subtleties in their glazes. Here's my attempt at the other, slightly smaller yunomi. The darker colors defy my camera and all of the surprising colors pale in comparison to the effect they actually have in person.

It's been awhile since I posted images of my work so I thought I would start with this little White Stoneware cup. Beautiful, Michael. I cannot help but see a pair of cranes flying through a mist near a body of water ... in Japan, of course.
