Cheap organic biluochun-style green on ice. Too darn hot right now...typhoon heading for Taiwan and it's made HK a steam room!

EDIT: and now smokey Myanmar green tea on ice!

Okay so I've tried my first sencha today.

I've been waiting to use my Gyokko kyusu from ArtisticNippon for sencha since I got it last week, and my order of Uji Otsuusan from O-Cha came today.

Just brewed some up and...shincha is my new love in life.

Am drinking Rizhao Xueqing from Teatrekker at work--this has been one of the most challenging greens I've had in a while. It has a LOT of flavor--and will tip over into astrigent/bitter at the slightest excuse. I'm using about 1/2 to 3/4 the leaf I normally use, and I'm still trying to figure out a consistent sweet spot ... a good tea, but one that does not like it when you do not pay attention in brewing, that's for sure!

This is the beginning of many love affairs with shincha. Enjoy.

It's ridiculous! The sweet, full of umami flavor and the thick mouth feel is just perfect to me. This is definitely one of my favorite teas that I've tried is far. It makes sense, as before this I was drinking mostly gaoshan oolong, which I love as well. This tea is just great.

Are there any others you'd recommend trying? I'm looking for something that is maybe a little different so I can see how different sencha tastes.

This is just awesome. I didn't know I was going to like it this much.

Kagoshima shincha... Good stuff. Tasted amazing today. I think I'm falling out of love with Chinese greens. I will, however, stock up on Taiwanese longjing and biluochun in Taipei next week :)

Enjoying a lovely session with another from Imen's special offer tasting set of green teas: Hua Xiang Jui Long

Image

Image

It's a lovely delicate green tea, with an intensely floral/fruity scent when I open the bag for the first time. I didn't feel like measuring and taking notes today, but I did take some photos to share the beauty of the leaves. They're more irregular in appearance than the average Long Jing, with a similar flavor profile but better than most that I've had--I always like the floral/fruity notes better than the nutty

Very nice through six or seven infusions. The liquor started out a delicate green...

....but gradually shifted to a delicate yellow. And the leaves were still pretty after brewing:

Another lovely session with the same Hua Xiang Jui Long, enjoying the remarkably similar crackles developing in my TC SO Shibuya Eiichi Rock Hagi

I'm having O-cha's Sae Midori right now. The new Kyusu really helps in terms of pour speed and things like that, but it's apparent that I need more practice, as each session with this tea is a little inconsistent. I'll get it right soon enough. :D

Himalayan Evergreen from Jun Chiyabari. Flavor is very light yet I like drinking this. Nothing to dislike about it. Almost like drinking what I get from my yixing pot when I forgot to put tea into it, a pleasant mild cup of ?

Descriptions from teablogs & companies that sell tea have been way off the mark--they seemed to be dealing w/ the name & mentioned pine. No way.

Drinking really bad bottled green tea from a vending machine at the airport in Taipei. I have four kinds of tea in my bag, but I'm on an early morning flight and haven't slept all night!
