As I was carrying my tea tray to the table I noticed again the beauty of the inside of my 'spring' cup. Now to brew some Karigane Otsuusan and admire the cup in use.
Re: Official what GREEN are you currently drinking?
Had a great session today with Zenhodo's Yame Gyokuro no. 1. On first brew I dosed it too high (10g) and found it overpowering and slightly bitter, but with 7g leaf to 80ml water, brewed at 60C in a small kyusu I also purchased from Zenhodo, it was wonderfully sweet and rich. Before drinking this gyokuro, I had no idea anything but puerh could have a such thick liquor...

Chiran Meicha from a Jusco supermarket in Nago, Okinawa. Tasty stuff now that I have it dialed in, but mild. I'm finally getting this sencha brewing thing down. I can't start the day without a sencha session.

2014 Premium Dafo Long Jing from Dragon Tea House. This one likes to be brewed at higher temps to bring out the floral notes hidden in there. Took me a while to figure this one out...as it was giving mostly chestnut like flavors.
Trying to finish this one so I can try the three 2015's I have waiting in the wings.

Drinking Hainan Baisha. This is not a fresh green, but looks somewhat oxidized. I bought it in vacuum sealed 8g packets. Tastes like fruit somewhat, but is also very high in caffeine, maybe because it is grown so far south in China (UV intensity). It definitely packs a wallop.
Some Chinese believe this tea is medicinal, because it is grown in an area that was hit by a meteorite. More recently, it was found to contain excessive levels of pesticide. This is from after the pesticide scare, but either way, it got a good rinse!

Xi Hu Long Jing from Norbu, from a Petr Novak shibo into a Cory Lum cup, sweet floral vegetal tea, gentle and pleasant start to the day, on a gray morning much like this one...
Re: Official what GREEN are you currently drinking?
Ippodo's Shincha. A bitter disappointment, I must say. None of the smoothness I've come to enjoy in other Shincha of quality. It is missing the refinement of a high grade tea. Of all the Shincha I bought in Japan, Ippodo's might be the worst tasting, and its the best known brand in the world!

Odd. Any chance it was a single bad bag/pouch/tin?
Today I'm enjoying some Gyoku-Hou from O-Cha, mmmm. It is so nice--the petite Shimizu Ken nosaka kyusu does bring out the best of it, rich and sweet without too overdoing the umami.

Debunix, I was just drinking some Hojicha out of a Cory Lum Yunomi when I clicked on the photo of yours. The Hojicha was from Shohokuen, a really smooth, deliciously roasted affair from Uji.

Very true. I'm just not of the opinion that Ippodo is still a great brand when there are several other sources that suit my tastes much more.theroots wrote:How different opinions can be..Tead Off wrote:Of all the Shincha I bought in Japan, Ippodo's might be the worst tasting
Re: Official what GREEN are you currently drinking?
Yes, it just depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for smoothness, I agree with you Ippodo really will be the wrong choice (as it was the years before). On the other hand Marukyu-Koyamaens Shincha for example has a great smoothness but for some people I know this tends to be boring. They prefer the edgily of products like Ippodos Shincha.
I for one do like both of them.. they're just different.

Tai Ping Hou Kui from Wing Hop Fung. Spicy sweet vegetal green, a nice start to the day. It helped to make up for having forgotten to take some more sencha out of the freezer to warm up yesterday....so I'll have to wait until tomorrow for my next sencha-fix. TPHK is happy to fill in.

Guizhou biluochun and longjing in Guangzhou...organic. Both surprisingly good!
