Just finished four days of Long Jing. The Da Fo was my favorite, but I'm a little fried out on it now.
To explore, I began by brewing each sample in small quantities, side-by-side, using two methods, to see how each tea responded and to see what method I preferred. The methods were Gingko’s grandpa style and Brandon’s “Double Brew” style. After the first two teas, I decided the Double Brew was for me, upped the brewing vessel size and finished the last two in that manner. I really enjoyed the soft, very sweet, strong green flavors that develop with that gentler method. My taste in greens definitely leans Japanese, so those kinds of flavors were more apparent with the lower temperature brewing. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the hotter and longer grandpa-style, it made good tea too, just different tea that didn’t quite fit my palate – more mineral, more water chestnut (I loathe water chestnuts), more firing expression.
Check out my (blog post) for detailed notes.

Sencha YM from O-Cha after breakfast, now a session of Kagoshima Kirishima no Kaori from Yuuki.
Re: What GREEN are you currently drinking?
Just finishing the last of my Aoi, Organic Kirishima Sencha Silver, YM, and Yame Gyokuro. Awaiting a new shipment which includes Uji Kabuse, Miyabi, and the Organic Kagoshima Asamushi Sencha (can't wait to try them).
Re: What GREEN are you currently drinking?
In honor of the post which seemed to me to propose that my love of more expensive teas is externally driven, I'm spending a comfortable Saturday morning drinking my most expensive teas. I began with a newly opened bag of Gyokuro Tsurujirushi (delicious, but It remains to be seen if I will become addicted to upscale gyo) and now I've moved on to Tai Ping Hou Kui from Seven Cups. The TPHK is amazing this year. The Jing TPHK is wonderful, and noticeably better than last year's, but the Seven Cups is a cut above.
Last year there were discussions about the poor quality of the Chinese tea harvest. I didn't understand, because I was drinking all this delicious tea. Now I understand. TPHK is on sale at Seven Cups this month, so I'm going to stock up, and also buy the two grades of Huang Shan Mao Feng that are on sale.

Yesterday in honor of the same patron saints as JRS22, I imbibed gyokuro's emerald dew at not one, but two of New York City's fine tea establishments. Where better to explore external influence on human action?

Wish I had thought of this.JRS22 wrote:In honor of the post which seemed to me to propose that my love of more expensive teas is externally driven, I'm spending a comfortable Saturday morning drinking my most expensive teas. Have been trying lots of sencha samples from the World Tea Expo East in Philly. An Asatsuya has been outstanding. A Tenryu has been beyond outstanding!
Also broke open a bag of Adagio's Sencha Premier.
More sencha is on the way!
Re: What GREEN are you currently drinking?
I am not a specialist of sencha, but Florent's Asatsuya has been one of my best sencha experience so far. A great cultivar indeed !Chip wrote:An Asatsuya has been outstanding.

I have been admiring his teas for some time, and will likely order in the near future. But there is a problem with his checkout page (it is not fully encrypted), so I'll wait until that is fixed before I order.David R. wrote:I am not a specialist of sencha, but Florent's Asatsuya has been one of my best sencha experience so far. Nice looking Asatsuya, David! I have only been on this site once or twice. This guy is a member of TC?

Yes, he is flonihoncha.Chip wrote:Nice looking Asatsuya, David! I have only been on this site once or twice. This guy is a member of TC?
Chip, what is the tea fest like in Philly? Are there actual Japanese vendors exhibiting or is it all US based firms?

I think he knows about this issue. If it is still an issue when I am ready to order, I'll let him know.David R. wrote:Ah ? I've never had a problem with this. BTW, he replies quickly to e-mails. If his service with tea is as good as it is with correspondence, then he is vendor to check out, for sure.
I see from his Facebook page, that he has added another shipping option too.
