Looking for a Decent/"Affordable" Organic Matcha

by Garrett » Dec 26th, '10, 23:54

Hey all,

I'm looking for a decent, "affordable" organic matcha.

I use quotation marks around the word "affordable" because I know that is a very loose term. I'm completely new to matcha, so it doesn't seem to make much sense to delve right into the high end stuff.

Basically, I want something of good enough quality that would warrant daily drinking (even for the die-hard matcha drinkers).

Anyone have ideas?

P.S. Glad to be back!!!

(Sorry if this thread is repetitive in nature. I ran several searches and didn't come across what I was looking for)

I tried about 15 different Matcha yet. And the Uji Organic Matcha from O-Cha is definitely under the top three and is really cheap I think. $14 for 30g fits for an every day Matcha.
Give it a try.
bye

Thanks Marco (and those who PM'd me as well)! :D

Looks like I have some really solid leads, so now I've just got to try one or two out.

Best,

Garrett

I'm really glad you posted this Garrett! I've been looking for a good affordable one to start out with, and the Uji sounds like a good choice :)

I'm glad that my thread is proving useful for someone else! :D

I think I'm going to order two (or maybe three) grades so I can experience the difference between a good matcha to a great matcha. Of course, I'll have to start out drinking the lower grade one for a bit so I can really grasp what it's all about before trying the higher grade tea.

Just wanted to give a quick update.

I went ahead and purchased a 40g bag of Organic Uji Matcha from yuuki-cha.com.

For only $14 I figured that I couldn't go wrong. :)

What are your guys' opinions in regards to the upper-tier organic matchas? What are your favorites?

I'll probably order something in the next couple of weeks to compare to this "entry-level" matcha.

Thanks guys!

Just wanted to give a quick update:

So I wanted to wait about a week before giving my general impressions of matcha, being that this is my first time trying it out. Sometimes you can get stuck in that honeymoon phase where you think you love something just because it's new, and I wanted to guard against that.

Anyhow, now that it's been a week of drinking the organic Uji matcha from yuuki-cha, I am happy to say that I LOVE matcha! 8)

I'm already looking ahead to placing my next order, which I may have to do soon at this rate.

How long will a 40g package of matcha last? About how much would generally be used for a regular (usucha?) brew of matcha?

General rule of thumb, 2 grams for usacha and 4 grams for koicha ... YMMV.
