Organic Matcha Green Tea--Need Help

Postby matchapichu » Feb 15th, '11, 17:35

Hello all,

I know you are connoisseurs of green tea, but I am looking for a vendor who sells organic Matcha simply for blending into smoothies for the health benefits.

Right now I am looking at this:

http://www.yuuki-cha.com/organic-matcha/organic-uji-matcha-yuuki-konjo-100g

100 grams for $25.00 seems too cheap to be true, but since it's organic, I am wondering if the price is based on taste. If so, taste is not that important to me as long as the tea is fresh and has all the health benefits of green tea. So out of curiosity, has anyone tried this tea and what do you think?

Also, what is the best way to store Matcha green tea? I imagine an opaque glass container...?

Thanks!

PS - Is there anywhere in America that has a good price on bulk organic Matcha?

Don't know any venders that I can suggest to you right off the top of my head for what you are looking for.

I however do store my matcha in a plastic baggy, in a metal tea tin in the freezer. Not the best of the best ways to do it, but it keeps it fresh. I take out what I am going to need a day before hand and put it in the fridge. When I am almost ready for it I will take it out, usually an hour to two hours before hand so that it can warm up to room temperature. That is what I do though. Others might have a different way of handling it.

In answer to your 'P.S.' question:
Den's tea offers two powdered organic (not sure if it is certified, but they ARE grown without pesticides) senchas.
If you are just blending into smoothies, so the taste doesn't matter as much, powdered sencha is probably a good option because is is less expensive than matcha, but you get all the same health benefits.

I have not seen any other store that has so many types or flavors of Matcha.
I have tried the White Matcha tea and it is GREAT!!! Black Matcha is next on my list..

Have you tried the white matcha from this seller or another seller?

The quality of other teas(green, oolong...) seems bad

Lol. They use the same picture for every "matcha". Just change the color or saturation.

Aww, you ruined it for me!

It's probably not just the photos, but the tea itself is probably the same way... "just change the coloring or flavoring additive."

Although I am a little curious about how they bleach it white....

Yes... I've been tempted for a second on "pu-Matcha".

Other members bought white matcha from DTH and I "think" they said was good, but I don´t remember for sure
