Today I received my small order from Sugimoto America, 88th night Hachiju Hachiya Shin Cha. They included a thank you note and a few sample packs, nice. I’d love to try it right away but am worried of opening too many different packets and having them oxidize on me, so I guess I’ll have to wait.

Shincha sencha Kinari from Maiko arrived today, so the regular air mail took about a week. Waiting a few extra days was worth saving a few tea-bucks :D

Yay, looking forward to trying some of the Shincha from Ippodo. I'm used to seeing my tea before I buy it, so I'm hoping I can't go wrong with Ippodo : )

From what I've been told, it's pretty much impossible to go wrong with Ippodo. Is their shincha available yet? I plan on ordering some of theirs this year.

edit: just checked; it looks like it's available now. Did anybody else notice that the prices in the Japanese online shop are more expensive than the prices in the English online shop? 1155 yen / 50 grams for the former; 1100 yen for the latter.

I had emailed Ippodo a few weeks ago and was told their shincha would not be available outside of Japan.
But today I saw it as I was ordering gyokuro. I have a can in my order. We'll see.
My step sister brought me back a can from Kyoto last year. I thought it was pretty awesome.

I got my last 2013 pre-orders on Saturday; O-Cha's Kagoshima Shincha Yutaka Midori & Shincha Sae Midori, Fukamushi Shincha Kaoru & Chiran Shincha. The packets were very efficiently packed, doubled up in sealed plastic wrap and those nice shipping boxes you can reuse. Shipping was 1st class, costing 13% of the order rather than 30% for EMS. Not sure how long it took to get here though.

Went into Ippodo NYC yesterday and found out that their shincha arrived that morning! I'm very excited to see that they will be selling it there so I'm glad I was able to check it out before buying. They had also put together a cold brew of it that day to hand samples out to customers upon arrival which was interesting to try.

Thanks Victoria, mine arrived yesterday. It took 16 days in the mail to get here. Next time I am going with EMS despite the cost. I can't imagine with all the warm weather we've been having that it's good for the tea to be shipped like that.

Thanks,
Sam
