My first cup of loose leaf green tea

by tmikuckis » Feb 20th, '08, 23:25

Hello, I've always enjoyed drinking tea, but I would always just buy the green tea bags at the store. I recently joined teachat and I guess im on my way to becoming somewhat of a tea enthusiast. So while I was on a trip I finally found a store that sold loose leaf green tea, the type was rishi organic jade cloud green tea. After brewing my first batch, I learned howmuch better this stuff really tastes than the tea bags! now I'm hooked. Any one have some recommendations of other very good green teas, that are not too expensive?

Hm, I guess that depends on what you would consider expensive.

Stuff that seems to be popular around here:
Den's Tea - Sencha Fukamidori
Den's Tea - Guricha

My personal likes
Lupicia - Nara Tsukigase
Lupicia - Sayama Shincha 2007 (no longer avail sadly)

Companies worth checking out for awesome green teas:
www.lupiciausa.com
www.denstea.com
www.hibiki-an.com
www.o-cha.com

I'm sure that you will have plenty more suggestions too. Also there is the whole world of gyokuro, although that probably leaves your comment about not too expensive.

Welcome to the wonderful world of loose leaf teas! If I had to reccommend some teas from my personal collections:
-TaiPing Hou Kui-there are many vednors you can get it from and I have found that www.springbuds.com is a good place.....you have to e-mail the guy, but he is real nice and can get you whatever you need
-Any sencha from ocha.com is nice, but if oyu want something cheaper, itoe.com has a "daily sencha" that is $7 for 2.5oz and it is not bad at all
-a company you could look at is teafarm.com......some of their teas are not very good, but I have found some that are....and they are cheap enough to sample and not break the bank

Hope this helps!

The thing I find with tea is that it seems quite expensive paying all the money at once, but if you think about the price per cup/pot it doesn't seem so bad! :D

taooftea.com

o-cha.com

My green tea fanatic friend LOVES these two companies. O-cha is Japanese based, tea is fresh. I will be ordering from these two next week to form my own opinion. O-cha has great green tea teapots!

I have decided to buy the Adagio green tea sampler pack. The price seemed good and this way I can try the dif/ types of green tea.
