I will be introducing a new potter from Korea very shortly. His name is Kim Eung Chul and he lives and works in Suwon, which is a famous town for pottery near Seoul. Eung Cheol is a highly skilled potter and a young master working in different styles of Korean teaware. He is creating works in porcelain and Buncheong style. His Buncheong style work uses mixed onggi type clay with slip as the glaze. His porcelain work uses both clear glaze and Tenmoku glaze rendering very fine, smooth teaware that is elegant and functional for everyday use or special occasions.

To kick off his debut, I will offer teapots, tea trays/bowls, servers, and caddys. The quantity is limited and the prices have been lowered from his usual selling price in Korea. I am still waiting for some dimensions of tea caddys and tea trays before releasing these to the general public. Please check back here for the release and link. :D

I have posted Kim Eung Chul's work HERE

His buncheong work uses 60% onggi clay/40% buncheong clay. Both of these clays are high iron clays. These are reduction fired at cone 8 as well as his other work. Buncheong ware uses slip as the glaze.

His porcelain work uses both Tenmoku glazing and clear glazing on the fine white porcelain clay. He fires in a hybrid kiln using both electricity and gas.

Please welcome him!

I just wanted to let everyone know that all the work from Yi Yong Cheol has been sold and there will be no new work in the near future. He has moved to Cambodia to be involved with a tour business as he couldn't support his family as a potter. He did tell me that he will try and create new works in Cambodia, but when that will be is not known and will probably not be possible in the near future. Perhaps next year, we will see some new work from. We wish him the best!

Please convey my best wishes to Yi Yong Cheol, Tead--the teapot and server I have of his are among my favorite pieces, and used often, and I do hope he is able to return to ceramics someday. But in the meantime, I hope he and his family do well in Cambodia.
