Half the money is estimated as unpaid V.A.T, levied by customs, the other half is the fee that the local mail carrier 'Parcel Force' charge as a fee for collecting the money for UK customs.

Mag was too honest in describing the contents

Most of my chinese deliveries of teaware tell a few lies on the description, downgrading the value of pots, and upgrading the value of leaf - tea itself carries no V.A.T.

Of course I was greedy and went for 5 items, there is a cut off point for teaware below which no V.A.T is levied. :oops:

That is a bummer. So does customs nail every package coming into the England?

Japanese vendors are going to be straight shooters every time.

In 2 years and about 40 shipments, this is the 3rd time I have been collared.

I even got one large shipment of 35 yixings from a Chinese ebay site with no charge!

Perhaps it depends on how lazy or how officious the customs staff are.

But several vendors have told me in their confirmation that they have labelled it all as tea to avoid charges.

Actually, all of the Japanese vendors I've dealt with except Artistic Nippon, list the price as what I tell them to. Thai customs is 30% + VAT. Anything $20 or less is not charged. So, I make that clear and the vendors seem to comply.

This is virtually never a concern in the USA fortunately.

I would not want to tell a vendor to falsify documents this way. Living here, I have never had the temptation.

I have had shippments from Japan with a few white lies. My kyusu's package stated that it was media mail, lol.

They have arrived

My first impression was how VERY small the cups were!

:shock:

I thought that lovers of the Japanese Green loved tea bowls that they could bury their face in!

So much so, that I have shunned all temptation to buy Yunomi, and even checked the sizes of Guinomi before deciding that I could not afford them :oops:

Maybe I could use them as thimbles :cry:

WAIT

I have just been using one to drink Dan Cong

Delightfully delicate, the tea tastes excellent

Instead of my 140ml Yixing lasting just 2 to 3 bowls
and me gulping it down eagerly in a matter of seconds

I get 10 cups to savour and appreciate

and they will be just the ticket if a couple of friends come round and persuade me to brew up some $120 Song Zhong!

I am glad I got 3 now and not 2 :lol:

Yeah, I have an older Hagi Gyokuro set and the cups are precious for the "precious dew" they were made to hold. I am anxious to check these out first hand, hopefully maybe perhaps possibly optimistically by Saturday???

Thanks for sharing your experience with us. It is funny, when I first saw the Yunomi I was shocked how big they were. :shock:

The next Hagi offer will be just the right size! :wink:

No way, the Japanese finally figured out how to create magical shrinking and expanding tea-ware! The same kyusu can brew both Sencha and Gyokuro! If this is the case, the technology is bound to be expensive...I'll wait for the Chinese pirated version in that case.... :lol:
