Also, it is just sanitary to use hot water (above 70 C) in order to kill whatever germs may be on there. You are going to put your lips on it after all.
stentor, i agree it is important to clean a new piece to sanitize it. but the soaking process is more unique to hagiyaki due to the nature of the clay and firing, in regards to staining and leaking. that's my understanding.

When Mag got my payment he inadvertently dispatched someone else's :(

Now that the other person has paid, he could not understand why they had paid twice

He checked the paypal payments :)
And realised that I had already paid.

Mine has finally been posted. :D

I'm sorry, but I'm a little busy using it. I will take som photos. The glaze really is incredible! The only issue I have with it is the number of holes in the glaze on the interior. Mine has over 50 large holes on the inside bottom of it. I know that this type of glaze often has indents, but these are large holes. I'm interested in hearing what other owners have to say about it. I'll attach some photos tomorrow.

Yeah, I see the bubbles in all the photos of the interiors.

I am guessing this is part of the Hagi personality of these pieces and a reaction to the extreme Oni Hagi clay/sand.

SOs are always NEW and different. They are never pieces that have been made 1000's of times previously. Thus the unique nature of the pieces will include the unexpected.

I realize that and the glaze is, as I said really cool, I'm just not sure how I feel about them yet. Bubbles wouldn't bother me, but these are holes. So, we're still getting acquainted.

Yeah I saw those, I looked at all the pics quite throughly, even enlarging them. They did appear more like bubbles than holes. Such a unique glaze so beautiful. Perhaps more successful as an over glaze on top of another color. But that is what makes these so unique. I can't wait to see it in person. Congrats on being the first!!

Yes! That's two reports of Hagi without photos so far.....teasing......cruel, even.

Working on it, my card is full ...

I am looking at the piece now. She is beautiful. I just had it out in the sun, very cool. I am extremely satisfied with the outcome. I hope everyone else is as well.

The holes ... these were bubbles it seems that surfaced and were then covered/filled with a successive layer of translucent glaze. I think virtually all Hagi I have seen has multiple layers of glazing.

I can see for each bubble that surfaced, there is one that did not. The effect is very interesting, but not a wow moment thing. But it does add to the unique nature of the piece.

But the "holes" are clearly filled on this piece leaving a textured interior bottom.
