herbals & milk curdling

i saw this question on teachat from Princess, but none of us was around to answer...

so I am hoping that someone can confirm (or reject) my theory of why this is. I always assumed that it was the acidity of many of the fruity herbals that cause the curdling effect in milk...kind of like adding vinegar to whole milk to "imitate" buttermilk (which works wonderfully if you're in a pinch for scones).

is that right? i've never added milk to my herbals (other than rooibos) because of hearing this before hand.

Yep.... the curdling would undoubtedly have to do with the acidic quality of the fruity herbals.

Secondly, yuck! Who puts milk in herbals?

To each their own i guess!

I thought it might be nice - sort of like ice-cream on your fruit pie, thought it was yucky! Though you shouldn't have been such a snot about it Chris - be kind!

oops -sorry about the above typos - just learning the forum ways and new to teas as well - let's encourage one another not discourage - have enough of that in the world already! Just my 2 cents for more pleasant responses. :D

I don't like my pie a la mode. I guess that's why milk in herbals kind of weirds me out too. But if you like it, go for it!

I do so love a fruit pie a la mode - like a nice blackberry, though now realize milk and herbals are NOT a good mix - curdles waiting to happen - icky!

'cess--

Since you are just learning the forum ways, I wanted to make sure you realized that we're not trying to be "snotty" (although i was sick last week, I'm feeling much better) -- this is just the sense of humor we've got on TeaChat coming out. It may take some getting used to, but we're actually all rather affable (except, maybe Ilya) and easy to get along with!

Sorry if there were any hurt feelings!

Poor Ilya. Always gets the guff around here.

(I bet it's because he steals all the really good bagels.)

So sorry to hear you were feeling ill Chris - try a nice bit a tea (without milk) and get some rest. No hard feelings here - just new to this type of banter I suppose, not my "cup a tea". Though do like the Adagio teas!

At least you didn't have to learn the hard way like Floridahawk and some of our other, thinner-skinned and argumentative newcomers!

Welcome to the chat!
