auhckw: KLP 1 - 2005: Golden Award Liu-Pao 85122

by auhckw » Jul 22nd, '11, 07:11

As some of you are aware, here in Malaysia we have access to a wide variety of tea and teawares. It is fun to enjoy this ‘luxury’. So I decided to extend my experience and purchase options with TeaChatters via this KLP (Kuala Lumpur Project).

When I come across an interesting tea, I will post the info up. The tea that I select in the KLP will be of something good at least to the tea drinkers (customers) in the shop and also my seniors. So, if you are interested to buy, let me know. I will do it in a bulk order so that I can safe my traveling time and cost to collect it.

Besides the KLP item, if you come across something that I have tasted or purchased and wished to know more. Feel free to PM me and I will try to get the details for you.

I am NOT a Seller and don’t do this for a living. I’m doing this as a hobby to share tea interest and fun. That said, I do not wish to do this at a lost, so I have markup a little to include packaging, paypal charges, bank charges and currency difference.

This is my very first attempt to do this. So pardon me if there are some hiccups in between. I could do this more often in the future if the respond is good.

2005 – Golden Award Liu-Pao 85122 (Tea Art & Cultural Expo 2011)

This is one out of the forty blind tasting samples sent out to participants interested to taste and vote before the Tea Art & Cultural 2011 Expo. There are about 600 box sets sent. Results were then selected 2 weeks before the expo. Based on people’s choice, 5 gold and 5 silver were awarded.

This won the gold award after being voted by hundreds of tea drinkers. It is the only Liu-Pao that won the gold award.

Many tea drinkers I know have come to a conclusion that the taste is very good for a young Liu-Pao. It gives a warm feeling when drinking. Good body, strong aroma and deep flavored. As it gets lighter from many infusions, it remains sweet and gives a little camphor (zhang xiang) taste. It has long lasting aftertaste too.

How does Liu-Pao taste? It is a little similar to:
-Ripe Puerh
-Aged Raw Puerh
-Woody
-Chinese Herbal
-Wet stored

How to brew Liu-Pao?
Just like how you would brew Ripe Puerh

Can this be aged?
Yes. The older the better

Price as of 22nd July 2011

Weight: 200g Loose
Price: MYR 70 (USD 25) - including packaging, paypal charges, bank charges and currency difference.

Price does not include delivery charges. You need to give me your order quantity and address so that I can get the postage company to quote. By using POS Malaysia, send by flight will take about 3 weeks. But if you want to receive it fast, I could get Fedex to quote but it is very costly.

Payment methods would be Paypal.

If you are interested, please PM me your:
-Name
-Address
-Contact Number
-Quantity

As all of us know, everyone has different liking to the same kind of food/drinks. This applies to Tea. A lot of people may like it, but you may not. So don't be shy and feel free to leave your reviews and comments on the tea once you have received it. Lets learn the tea together.

I did want to mention ...

Auhckw did contact me prior to posting this asking permission. I appreciated this since this is a bit different than the typical TeaSwap ... or anything else going on on TeaChat.

So we will see how this goes, and I will certainly be reading comments on how this progresses.

And while obviously as with all TeaSwaps, you participate at your own risk, I would say good luck :!:

Ditto! I'm in on this one, and I am looking forward to other opportunities, too!

I've really enjoyed all the pictures and descriptions you have been posting in the Pu forum, so thank you for offering to do this.

I for one I am excited to see you doing this. I will probabaly take part in this order another idea would be to older sheng cakes that we could split up between several tea chatters to have the oportunity to have a chunk of aged sheng without the cost of a whole cake. Just an idea as i've heard you mention that you don't like spending money on the older tea but you like to drink it.

I'm too po'r, only got $3 to my name, but want to be with y'all in sympathy.

The bigger thing is getting aged standard teas like early 2k Dayi and Xiaguan, and trying out local brands, whether that be aged or not. Shrink the globe a bit.

I'm in... I appreciate the effort it will take to coordinate all this. A good opportunity to try tea that would probably not be easily available to most westerners.

And to reciprocate, we could ship over to you some hard to find in malaysia stuff, like moon pies or a debt crisis.

Thanks guys for the support. This is just the beginning. Here are some of the ideas:

-Introduce special or 'hot' items that is widely acceptable by the tea drinkers here. This does not limit to just Pu. It can be Oolong, Greens, Teawares, etc.

-Share the cost of slightly older/aged tea (Malaysian storage). I can buy some and break it and share the cost among those that is interested to try.

-Do a combo set tasting package. Eg, I will buy and compile certain series of tea. eg. Few tea from X year or X factory or Custom tea from X shop, or all the new tea for Dayi (or other brands) and let you guys try.

-Introduce new/pre-order from Dayi (or other brands) at the price we get here. So you guys can enjoy the cheaper rates.

-Feel free to ask me (in PM) for things that I have posted if you are interested or get me to find something. I will try to find on my usual visits to the tea shops.

I am excited to share this and listen to your opinions. It is part of learning process that we can exchange opinions together :)

I too love to read auhckw's descriptions of teas and events and see all of the wonderful pictures. So much so, that I contacted him several weeks ago regarding some raw Xia Guan 2007 he had described. I thought he might be able to direct me to a website where I could purchase the tea.

He kindly offered to help me purchase some of the tea. I bought six 100g tuo 5 packs. It took approximately 10 days to arrive via POS Malaysia (I live in California). The tea arrived in great condition. I enjoyed the puerh this morning using one of Petr's lovely pots.

Thank you auhckw.

You are welcome, Cammie. Glad that I could be of service and you liked the tea.

The problem here is that there are plenty of teashops but mostly don't have websites selling tea. Even if they do, it is outdated or not much products to see.

Buying things online using credit card or paypal is not something common here though it seems like it is picking up.

This is interesting and I will keep watching on it :D
The other guy when seeing your rich friend's collection, I thought I would be interested in buying some 5-year-old Xiaguan Tuo or Dayi Tuo from Malaysia if they are easily available. Of course 8-10-year-old would be great, depending on affordability. So keep going! :D

I already have in mind what to promote in KLP 2 but would only execute after KLP 1 is closed.

Sneak preview info:
1997 CNNP Wild Yiwu Camphor (Zhang Xiang) Raw Puerh

They have Cover and Naked version. Price differs but same item. A lot of tea drinkers after drinking this have set their standard higher in Raw Puerh. The camphor (Zhang Xiang) taste is hardcore. The kick rocks. Long lasting brew... Dry storage throughout its life in Malaysia... (enough info for now, more when KLP 2 is up).

Quite expensive. Price yet to confirm but should be around 5g : USD3 for the naked version. Cover version will cost more. In KLP 2, I will most likely have to buy and break in loose and share.

For those that participating in KLP 1 (first 20 person). I will send 5g sample for free. Sorry couldn't send more grams cause I don't have much myself. Use gaiwan to test. Try stress test it to the max. This tea can brew non stop. Even though it goes lighter in the end infusion, but the touch of camphor taste is still there.

Edit: All free Samples have been given away
