TeaChat icons

by ilya » Mar 20th, '09, 11:37

We've had TeaChat up for a number of years and every once in a while I feel the urge to redo the default icons on the site, but can never find the time to do a good job. I figured I'd ask if anyone has the time/ability/inclination to help on this projects and be rewarded with everlasting praise from the TeaChat community. Obviously a tea-theme would be appropriate for all/most of the icons.

Here are the icons in question.

Oh, a tea-themed facelift! I suddenly wish I had more than my measly Paint application.

I am imagining awesome little tea leaves and tea tins :D

Would it be possible to have folks submit a few exmaples of their ideas and then the users get to vote for their favorite? Just might be nice for us folks who love our teachat but for whatever reason cannot add to its graphical design directly to get to weigh in.

vote or no vote, I am pumped to see our facelift :D

Im not an artist but I am a Geek. For those of you that only have a "measly paint application" and would like something more like photoshop please check out an opensource application called Gimp http://www.gimp.org/

I know its a stupid name. Gimp (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a FREE Open Source application that is on par with photoshop as far as your non professional user is concerned. Total cost is $0.00 no strings attached, not a free trial, it is free software .... enjoy :D

Download it here ~~> http://sourceforge.net/project/download ... uperb-east

Here are some tutorials to get you started using gimp http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/

here are some examples of the things you can do with gimp

I'd love to help, but I'm afraid that I don't have a graphic bone in my body. But I'll be glad to give my opinion (if that's worth anything).
I think the color scheme could stand a little overhauling as well.

Hope the day comes I can be of a little service cause I love this little community.

Tea themed, eh?

For starters the "Forum Read" and "Forum Unread" icons could be full and empty (respectively) teacups/gaiwans. If someone could supply a good reference image for such icons, I may be able to make some, time permitting.

As for the rest of the icons, I'd like to hear people's ideas and maybe I could bring them to fruition.
We were fated to pretend.

I could do it but right now I'm really stressed out because for some reason I have 3 times more jobs than normally do (talk about recession) so I can't promise I could do something fast.
If that's o.k. let me know.

A really very nice little shareware program I use is called:

Paint.net

Free, frequently updated, with a great forum for questions, to boot.

http://www.paint.net/

Much, much better than MS paint.

Inguna,

Since all of your work is crazy beautiful (I'm sure everyone agrees), any help you can offer would be much appreciated. I understand about the time constraint, but since we don't have a deadline, any time is fine.

No pressure there  But your kind words are very much appreciated! I will work on the buttons as fast as I can.
Please note that even the "large" buttons are in fact very small. From my experience the more "stuff" you want to include the worse it looks – so I will keep it minimal/simple/modern which I think fits Adagio's style as well.

That is a cool idea. Sadly I am not very much artistic and can not be of much help. The voting sounds like a good idea. And will be curious with the more stuff people come up with to.
My name i's ashley I am a female and 21 years old.

Looking great!

Might I make some suggestions for additional emoticons?

A cup of tea
A pu-erh beeng
A tea leaf(?)
A tea pot

On a chainmaille board that I frequent, they came up with chainmaille-related smilies (smiley in a coif, a pair of pliers, etc)... so could be fun here, too...?

Can't promise you can do something fast, eh? :P
You are like me, you'll skirt around 'real' work to do something that really excites you - my husband calls it ADD, I call it fun

I looks beautiful, Inguna - Thanks for thinking of us :D
