mold

I noticed some brown mold forming on the paper wrapper around one of my pu erh cakes I have in storage. Is that bad?

Is there nothing I can do to save it? It is my most expensive pu erh cake...

Can I just take the wrapper off and wrap it with some other paper or something like that? Or could I put it in the freezer for a few days to kill the mold?

I'm storing them in a small cardboard box with four styrofoam cups filled with a small amount of water.

It's not fuzzy, only discolored. The tea itself looks normal. I guess it's not mold after all.

Don't discredit it as mold just yet. Mold can attack the outside before it reaches the inside. Can't tell from picture. Nonetheless, if it brushes off dont worry about it - of course unless the mold is yellow which is dangerous. If you are worried about it, I would take your pu out and let them sit for 3 days or so and let your storage area dry out some.

What are those tiny black dots stuck in betweens the paper folds? Hope it's not poop poop bugs

It doesn't brush off. I'm fairly certain now that it's just discoloration.

It has fairly good airflow.

The black spots are just stray pieces of tea.

do not fret if its only on the wrapper...

however if it wasnt there before and it is now then something must be wrong with your storage condition, gotta check on that

That looks more like tea oil discoloration than mold.

so the styrofoam cups are inside the box??? if so, i would take the cups outside of the box. i think the tea is way too close to your water/moisture source.

and the photo is out of focus by a mile.


i would also be more worried about mold on the cake and not on the wrapper.
