Gift Certificates Map

by ilya » May 30th, '06, 17:54

I have just put the finishing touches on a bit of code that shows a visual representation of the gift certificates you have sent out and up to three degrees of separations of how they spread once redeemed. It's located in the Adagio Teas account page and I'd love to get any feedback you may have.

It's great, and it works! :D

...doesn't say much to me since I have only one referral, but... still. :?

Looks nice, though I wish I had more referals now.

The problem isn't sending out the referrals but having people that you send them to place orders. Last year at Christmas I sent out a $5 gift certificate referral to everyone in my address book and nobody cashed theirs in yet

Hey ilya - that is really neat! Now I'll have to go to the guy that sent me a certificate to see an additional level of separation! It's good that you're only putting in the initial for the person's last name too, so that their privacy isn't compromised. Keep up the great work! :D

I love the concept but I wish I could see it - the map is displaying just as a gray box in my browser (IE6).

This is a neato idea!

It is a pretty cool idea...hopefully people will start using my certificates now, Although everyone that I have sent one to so far is from my city.

I've sent 6 certificates out so far and no one's used them...

...but inspired by this map, I've just sent out three more. :)

I've sent out a ton of them, but only one person used them and they aren't on my map. :|

So far only one of my friends has used the certificate. It doesn't show on the map nor is the "conversion" indicated with my icon. Probably because I changed email addresses awhile back.
Matters not -- I still got 10 points credit and I'm happy about that!

Still no ideas why TeaMap thinks I live in California? Something is messed up somehow with the code if it thinks this. Just thght I'd mention it again.

Bug fixed

by ilya » Jun 16th, '06, 16:52

Seems that there was a bug in the code and it was picking one of your gift orders as your residence. It was now been corrected.
