Ceramics by Chris Chaney (chicagopotter)
Hi there! My name is Chris and I am a potter living in the suburbs of Chicago.
Most of my current work is high fired (2300 degrees) in an atmospheric soda kiln. I specifically enjoy making teapots, yunomi, and chawan.
If you are interested, you can see some of my work here: http://chicagopotter.net
And buy it here:

Thanks!

Hi chicagopotter and thanks for sharing with us. Your work is stunningly awesome!
I just love the reddish/purple one above, the 2nd from the bottom!
I definately see one of your marvelous creations on one of my teaware shelves in the near future.
I am certainly looking forward to seeing more of your teaware posted here!

I use stoneware w/iron, white stoneware, and a stoneware specially formulated for Soda firing. Each clay has unique properties that suite different shapes and decorating techniques.
I'm new to soda firing, so am still learning what works and what doesn't. It's a really fun, but like Cory was saying, losses can be high. From a kiln unloaded yesterday, I was able to save 2 out of 10 yunomi...threw s'more, so will try again!
Drinking Ti Kuan Yin this morning.

Spreading the Clay Love -- Gift Yunomi!
Thank you for all the kind words regarding my yunomi. I would like to help continue to spread the handmade ceramic love (started by Cory) by offering up 5 gift yunomi to TeaChatters. To make it fair (and to make sure as many people get free* ceramics as possible) this gift offer is only available to those who did NOT get a chawan generously offered by bonjiri.
This gift is free* of charge, however I am asking the recipient to honor a couple of small requests:
First -- the piece must be used for tea drinking.
Second -- after using the piece for a while, I am asking that the recipient send a PM to me with an honest review of its function, aesthetic qualities, etc. so I can continue to refine my work.
Third -- you pay the shipping (they are small, so should be cheap...)
First 5 people to reply (not having received Cory's chawan) a piece is yours!
BTW, got 3 lovely matte yellow and 1 Shino out of the kiln yesterday...
Thanks!

Dang it!
I keep missing the good stuff. Guess I should keep a better eye on TeaChat and pay less attention to work.
