I have lots and lots of opened cakes and tuos, but I'm finally starting to accumulate some for the future. I had the same problem when I collected wine- I'd drink them faster than I could buy them.TomVerlain wrote:nice spread ..

With wine, you pop a bottle and it's gone. At least with pu'er, an open cake may last more than a year, so collecting them (ie: not consuming them) is much easier.Pictured:

and the '08 Xiaguan Fei Tai Duling Fengsao "exquisite elegance". The latter is an upscale version of the Baoyan brick, and is really terrific. I have two, and it's worth getting more. Reviewed here

Organization mostly done!
Ahhhh, I just finished organizing the pumidor. I had a bunch of samples that I needed to get into different containers (or better situated, at least). I had also stuffed in a bunch of tuos on the bottom shelf, and that needed better organization so that I can more easily get to the humidifiers. In any case.....
I think with a little more creative arrangement (like moving the upper shelf up a couple notches), I can probably fit another 10-tongs worth of puerh in there. I've got a recent spate of samples that I need to make it through before I make another big order, but I'm pretty close to the patience phase of just waiting.
I've got close-up shots of the separate shelves if anybody's interested in it, otherwise I won't clutter up the thread

I have tried my sample of Exquisite Elegance twice now and didn't get excited about it. I guess I will have to subject it to the ultimate test ... and maybe I should brew it a little weaker, as Hobbes seems to suggest in his review.

Well, things have been slow(er) in the pu-forum lately, so *twist twist* -- not too much prodding needed... heh.
Bottom shelf:
The two humidifiers are down here in the corners. I've put all tuos down here. Mostly Nan Jian 2004/2005. Also some Xia Guan gold ribbon 2004, 2007. Plus some other types. I stocked up on the Nan Jian as a sold bet after having really enjoyed the 1993 tuo.
The second shelf has 2 tongs of 2008 Menghai. 7532 and 7582. And a tong of Haiwan 8088. In the back left are hiding 2 'boxes' (5 bricks each) of 2004 and 2007 XG Flame brick. Good stuff! Some misc bricks here on the left. On the right, some of the 'older' stuff -- the 1993 Nan Jian tuos, I picked up a bing of 1996 Menghai from Nada, and in that bag on the very right are some of the 90s tuos from Nada.
The third shelf, well there are three tongs hidden in the back. I think a 2008 CNNP, a Bulang Spring buds, and that "controversial" one (: The rest are all onesies or twosies of various types, all in the 2003+ timeframe. You can see the stack of mini bings near the right. The top two are the 2004 Zai Xi Po, which i'm completely butchering. But Hou De restocked those a while ago and they were only like $12, so I picked up two. They've since re-sold out. They have a really refreshing aroma, and I still haven't tried these out, so I'm looking forward to that.
You can see the temp/humidity monitor on the upper right, and there's another fan on the back wall to help w/ circulation. The top shelf had originally been only cooked puerh, but after today's organization, the cooked stuff is on the right half of this shelf. I have a few bings, some tuos, some loose stuff, but not a whole lot of shou.
The right half is mostly samples (using those clay yixing cups I got from chinese teapot gallery), and still a mix of cupcake tins. I've also placed up there some more of the stuff I haven't sampled yet, so that I have easy access to it. For example, the 5 plastic bags up front are samples of the 2008 Menghai Peacock series...
I was trying to keep the cooked stuff relatively separate, but I don't have enough of it to warrant taking up an entire shelf... and I don't foresee that changing. I do enjoy it, but it's too easy to get good current-day shou for me to want to give up space to sheng that could be aging.

The loose samples are a bit of a conundrum for me -- even if they come from bings, you usually get a mix of chunks and loose (depending on how tight the bing was). I don't want to store them in plastic bags, even if they're "open," so I've taken to storing them in clay or tin cups. I'm not sure if this is smart or not, but I haven't come up with a better solution for the 50 samples that I have...!
Anyway, thanks for looking! I'm sure as I continue to learn I'll "regret" half of my purchases, but hey, a lot of suggestions came from folks here, so maybe it won't be so bad. Although I have to admit that I'm already dreading the thought of having to move in a couple of years.....!
